After yesterday's great celebration of Isaac Asimov's birthday, today we have another great writer to celebrate! It's J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday! What a better day to appreciate the exceptional work of this man! Although I've never heard of him before the Fellowship of the Ring was released, after that I discovered the great world he created. Did you know about him before the Lord of the Rings movies? What novel or story do you appreciate the most?

You seem to love literaure a lot. To be honest I did not read nor watched the move Lord of the Rings. It is not my type of genre. Thanks for sharing this news with us. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

I can't say that I'm the greatest reader of them all, but there are genres that I like and that I read of. Fantasy is one of them, and Tolkien is one of the greatest authors of the genre so I couldn't miss him... Thanks for responding!

Hi there Vasile. I must say that i haven't heard about J.R.R. Tolkien before the movie Lords of the Ring just like i haven't heard about C.S.Lewis before Narnia. I am a bit ashamed that i have not yet managed to read anything by Tolkien, but at least i managed to read something about his friend Lewis (i am at the 7th and last book of Narnia and i don't think i really like the ending...).

J.r.r Tolkien's writings have stood the test of time. I started by reading the Hobbit back in 1977 after the animated film came out and read each one as they were published in paper back. My son and his two kids also have read them. JRR start his writing for children especially his own children. He wrote the The Hobbit in 1937 for his son. There is a new movie in the works called the Hobbit. It is due out in 2011 or 2012
