I think its Sanath Jayasuriya when we take his records, considering ODIs above 10000 and he is still there! amazing.

When gayle is in the field i don't feel he is destructive but he is a good player really. If someone comes to mind when thinking of destructive it is jayasuriya. He has proved that too...even at this age he is one the most feared batsmen. He holds the world record for the fastest fifty in one day international against pakistan.

Of all the cricketers i have seen the word DESTRUCTIVE suits King Richards the most,he just used to rule as long as he batted.Of the present lot i will go with Jayasuriya as the most destructive batsman,he changed ODI as he and Kaluwitharana started attacking the bowlers from the word go.Till their exploits the basic policy of every team was defending and not losing a wicket in the first 10 overs, but Jayasuriya changed the game forever.

oh definitely king richards was way ahead.most of the cricket during his era was on fast and true pitches unlike the cricket we see today on placid pitches.

Hi Chris gayle's strike rate is 57 in tests and 81 in odis whereas virendar sehwag's is 78 and 99 respectively. Even in 20/20, sehwag's strike rate is 157 compared to Chris gayle whose strike rate is 132. Virendhar sehwag has 15 test hundreds to gayle's 8 with a significantly better strike rate. Sanath jayasurya and adam gilchrist have 14 and 17 centuries respectively in tests with less strike rates than sehwag but more than that of gayle. McCullum and symonds are nowhere near to the above cricketers at present in terms of achievements. Of all these players, I feel sehwag's style is the most pleasing to watch while jayasuriya's and gilchrist's is outright brutal and ugly. I think sehwag is the only player in the above group with 2 triple centuries to his credit. So my vote is sehwag, not because I am an indian but because I love cricket for what it is.

I think you should check back your stats Chris Gayle's T20 strike rate is much better than Shewag. His ODI stats are much better than Shewag. I do agree with you that Shewag test stats is much better than Gayle's thanks thats just my view.

Hello i do agree with you that Chris Gayle is the most destructive batsman playing cricket now. He has the only international T20 century and its was against South Africa he made it. I do agree that Shewag is more destructive in test cricket but when it comes to Odi he really outshine Shewag. Gayle has 18 odi centuries 37 fifties compared to Shewag 9 centuries and 33 fifties. Thats just my views.

Out of all the contempory names only one name comes to my mind the marauding SEHWAG... i feel jayasurya too is equally destructive when he is in full flow...also girchist can tear an attack apart in no time...rest all batsman i will ignore due to the inconsistency factor...

sehwag may be very consistent in test cricket ......but sehwag is also not consistent in odi,s and 20-20 cricket

O.K. I can say that Gayle is terrific hitter of cricket ball. But in my opinion Viru is the most destructive batsman at this very moment.we must not forget that India have never thought of chasing 387 against England, Sehwag showed the way.He is the only batsman to hit sixes for three times to get hundreds while scored triple hundred.Undoubtedly I will go for Viru.

Destruction is caused by a hurrican called Virender Sehwag. This hurricane is causes more damage than the Tsunami or the Katrina that caused havoc in the US. This hurricane mentally dismantles the oppostion bowler's peace (of mind). The rahabilitation process of such a refugee is very sorry.

i think jayasuriya is the most destructive. once he gets going no one can stop him. he can hit any bowler for a six, plays pace and spin equally well he is the rel destroyer.

Many people come to my mind when i hear the word destructive: First in my mind is Aktar-- Self Destructive. Followed by Javed Miandad-- Destructive mind . Ambrose -- Most destructive bowler ( has destroyed many stumps) Greg Chappel -- Most destructive coach ( ly Destroyed India's Ranking) and yes -- all the other batsmen that my fellow myLotters have mentioned.

the first name that comes to my mind is yuvvraj singh he plays the most destructive innings coming in the middle order to bat...guys like sehwag, gilchrist, gayle play in field restictions and its easy for them to cause destruction. but coming in middle order and hitting sixes at will the way he does is unbelievable. who can ever forget his six sixes in an over and the recent destruction of england.
