From the minute passwords were invented, someone has tried to hack them. This website has put together the 500 most common passwords. http://www.whatsmypass.com/?p=415 If you see one of your passwords on the list, you might want to change them! (The site lists some bad words, so viewer beware!)

Yeah, I was surprised to see so many cuss words in that list lol, it was funny, because I was imagining what I would do if one of those bad words was my password and I had to tell it to somebody. "Oh yea, my password is (insert bad word here)". Thankfully, my password wasn't on the list :)

This is a good discussion. We all need to be reminded every now and then that we need to maintain secure passwords and that we should change them regularly. It's amazing how many treat this so trivially (would you really want someone guessing the password to your bank account or ordering thousands of dollars of merchandise in your name because they were able to sign into your eBay account?). Some of the other suggestions mentioned are good too. I would like to add not to use anything that may be public record or easy to access (birthday, portions of your address, phone number, mother's maiden name, etc.).

I never use common words as a password because it is easy for people to figure them out. That was a good list and I did not see either one of my passwords up there.

Hi kellys3ps, nice post. I found so many passwords being commonly used by many people like 1234, 12345, password, access, love etc. However, my passwords are not there as they are a combination of some unrelated words and numbers. Unless one traps my keystroke, these cannot be easily told. Happy mylotting..

Some of the worst passwords to use are: God, your own name, your children's names, your dog's name, your spouse's name, maiden names, your hair color, and the model of your car. There are many others. It is very easy to find out the above information by simply talking to a person or observing them. Be careful what you tell people in conversations.
