Do you let your dog sleep on your bed?

I have often seen movies, shows, or cartoons that depict a dog sleeping with them on their bed. The only time I have ever done this was when my chihuahua was a puppy. He simply would not stop whimpering, and I knew that he needed some attention. So, I let him sleep in my bed next to me, and he fell right asleep. Cute yes, but he grew so hyper so quickly that I could not continue this. I think if a dog is tame enough it can sleep in a bed with it's owners. But, if it is too hyper it may not be a doable thing.

I have two mini dachshunds and they do sleep in bed with me. Monica, the female of the pair, is very firm in her desires and she was really pushy about being out of the crate and sleeping with me. It works out great because she and her boyfriend Little Bit are little heaters! They are very laid back dogs and it is a pleasure letting them sleep with me. I will wake up in the morning with Monica sleeping with her head on the pillow next to me. It makes my morning to say the least.

That sounds nice =) my cats would sleep in my bed when I was living at my dad's house. And it amazes me how such small creatures can provide so much comforting heat =]

We allowed our dogs to sleep in bed with us. It does take time to get them to settle down. Each breed of course is different. Now, that the dogs are older, they choose to sleep elsewhere, which is fine with us, we now have to share the space with the cats. Not enough room for all of us.

Hi schwing_girl89 Well frankly speaking I do not.Because I prefer to keep them in their kennels. My pet has long hairs so it is not really hygienic to let her sleep in the same bed with me or any other member of my family. When she was small I generally avoided keeping her in the bed as she would have developed a bad habit by then.

Yes I can see your point, shedding is a bit of a bother.

I let my dog sleep with me in mybed...and she is a medium size dog (collie mix)...but she sleeps at the foot of the bed. It took some time for her to get used to the fact that it is my bd....now she knows when I turn the light off she jumps at the foot of the bed.

I make my larger dog sleep with me. She's thin and I don't like her laying on the cold floor. My fatso dog can sleep were she wants to. I would prefer it's in the bed, but she does it half and half. Cats also are in the bed. They all help keep me warm and I keep them warm.

LoL ~ I remember as a child that we didn't have a doghouse, and the puppy that I had at that time was hyper active as well. So, I had to let him away. Not because of his hyperness, but because I was so young that I didn't know how to properly care for him, and didn't want to take care of him properly. My wife wants a dog, now, but I don't ever think we will have another dog ever primarily because of my kids. They are getting using to keeping their room clean, beds made up, bathroom clean, etc... I just don't see another dog in the works at this time.

My dog is 11 and still behaves like a puppy so she is not even allowed in the house most days. I do sleep with my cat Rosie every night; she sits on my pillow and purrs. It started when our other cat Friday got sick and was not allowed to eat cat biscuits so they need to be separated at night so Rosie can eat her bisuicts. Sleeping with a pet is not for everyone but I would miss Rosie if she wasn't there.

We don't have a bed. We have a nest...lol. Two cats and two chihuahuas, in addition to my husband and I. It's actually funny because everyone has their own 'spot'. We don't need any extra blankets or quilts in the winter either, and the two chihuahuas think they're cats and wash themselves just like the cats do. Usually in the summer when it's warmer, the cats go find somewhere else to sleep.

I don't have a dog but whenever I go to my friend's house who have dogs they always sleep in their bed. I agree with you if the dog is tame enough it can sleep in the bed.

I never "let" my dog sleep in my bed, but before I was married she'd do it often. It would seem that she would lay at the foot of the bed, waiting for me to fall asleep and as soon as I did, she would jump up on the bed and curl up at my feet. The only problem was that she's pretty big and takes up the bottom half of my bed. I'd wake up falling off the bed because she was taking it all up. I'd kick her off the bed, but she'd invairably be up there again as soon as I was asleep. Sometimes I had to kick her out of the room so I could get some sleep. Now she knows there's not enough room in the bed and waits until we're both out of it to take over.

I think there is no harm in a dog sleeping with their owner. The only issue which occurs to my mind is the hygeine issue. It is little unhygenic to let your pet sleep with you. I tend to avoid this kind of stuff at my place.

We had our Chanel in dog obedience training when she was just a year. THAT by the way is a fabulous investment. Anyway, the trainer told us that having a dog sleep in bed is asking for trouble: they are pack animals and may think they are the Alpha in the pack. After 2 years some friends who were dog sitting for us broke our good habit. Now Chanel is 11 and still sleeps with us when she wants to! Some nights she prefers her own bed. Chanel is just 9 pounds and a calm demeanor so, it really isn't a problem.

I have two dogs, one is like sleeping on my bed, the other is perfer sleeping in the kennel, only the weather is so cold, the little dog will sleep on my bed. When my dog sleep on my bed, the best place is the place between my pillow and the head of my bed, sometimes they fight to get the best place, very interesting. :)
