your email, myLot, or even your financial accounts being hacked is small potatoes when you look at the bigger picture according to this article i'm reading. cyber attacks pose the 3rd greatest threat to the United States, right behind nuclear war and weapons of mass destruction. and according to the FBI it's something that is increasingly hard to prevent. EVERYTHING is pretty much linked to computers now days.....a skilled hacker could take down the financial institutions and infrastructures of the US. hacking has already been used as a "tool of war" in Russia and with the Gaza conflict going on right now. Shawn Henry, of the FBI's cyber "division, said that terrorist groups are working to create a virtual 9/11." Michael Balboni, deputy secretary for public safety in New York state, described "a huge threat out there" against everything from banking institutions to municipal water systems and dams. here's a link to the full article *NOT A REFERRAL LINK!!!* http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090106/ts_alt_afp/uscrimeinternetsecurity_newsmlmmd that's some pretty scary stuff. so they say the punishment should fit the crime.........what do we do with cyber criminals.......if only "Tron" was a reality.

Not suprised in the slightest. As for punishment if they're caught, lock them in a room with a computer WITH NO OUTSIDE LINE & feed them VIRTUAL food. Now if someone could convince my morgage companies computer that I didn't owe them anything....

wouldn't even have to lock them in a room.....just lock a virtual reality helmet on their head and you could do all kinds of sick twisted stuff to them. it would be like a 24/7 nightmare that they can't wake up from because they're already awake. MUHAAA HA HA HA HA!!!

I haven't worried at all bout being hacked... but DANG! that would suck! and since we can't give short answers that say everything we wanna say, I'm gonna keep typing until I fill more space up to look like I gave a really good reply to your discussion. so you don't even have to read this I am only filling space... there! that looks like it's enough!

Excellent point! What school did you attend? with logic and such wonderful responses such as these, I can tell it was a very good school! yeah, I can see that happening, poor schmuck, we both know that ya didn't go past the third grade cause you were tossed out for writing your own excuses. come on, did you really think the teacher would believe that you were pregnant? I think we are bluffing everyone now, they are probably thinking, dayum those two are the brains of this here place! little do they know! hey, ya reckon they are still reading? and further more, I think that is very possible, Mr. Sconi!

yeah...."i don't worry about nothing, cuz worrying's a waste of my time!" YES! finally i got to use an Axl Rose quote in a discussion! i just thought it was kind of an interesting article, and thought others might find it interesting and cause them to have nightmares and stuff and now i'm just rambling on so i can write a lot of stuff so it looks like we're having an intelligent conversation and then they'll think we're scientists or something and they'll ask us what school we went to and i'll say Prince Albert and you'll say what's skool and then they'll want to take our pictures and be our friends and do you think that's enough writing to give the illusion that we're smart or something??? i think it's probably enough so i'll talk to you later ok ok bye. and that's my theory Stormy.

Very scary. And you are saying that they can control our dams and utilities. This sounds very similar to a movie I just watched. But it could very well be possible. And the chances of being robbed on the internet are increasing everyday. People are turning to online banking and investments and they are now buying stuff online and this is dangerous stuff. And the thing is it's so much easier to steal online and you would not even be bothered. You don't really have to run from anyone and you could easily evade. That's very scary.

almost everything is linked to computers somehow......or controlled by computers. so a hacker could gain access to our basic needs like water, utilities, and communications. i think these companies need to come up with a back-up plan to run these things manually without the aid of computers in case something ever did happen.
