Our past experiences have a profound effect on how we see our lives today. It also effects what we believe about others and the world around us. We react to something based on what life has taught us. Right or wrong does not enter the equation, everything is based on experience. What are your thoughts on ths?

Hi Grandpa Bob! I agree! good or bad, right or wrong..the experiences that we had are to be lessons for us to make us better individuals. The experiences we had teaches us to be wiser and stronger, more loving and caring. Personally, I made a lot of mistakes and hurt so many people yet I was not bitter nor regret that it happened. Those experiences taught me valuable lessons and i would like to think that I am a better person now than ever before. Take care and have a nice day! lovelots..faith210

I think that our past experiences effect the way that we think and behave today, and in my opinion that is both good and bad. Sometimes bad experiences from the past have a negative impact on the things I do today, and sometimes I refrain from doing certain things because they were once painful. But the fact they were once painful doesn't always mean that they are painful today. I have often had some experiences which were painful and which made me say: "I am never ever going to to that again" and as a result I avoided the situation for years, but when I finally did it, it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. That was because I was older the second time and I was able to cope with the situation in a different way and see it in a different perspective. The situation was the same, but I was different. Of course our past experiences are also good and useful. Sometimes when I am in a difficult situation and I am thinking "I am never going to survive this" it is useful to think back on my previous experiences, because that makes me realize that I have had similar thoughts before and that I have survived before.

Hi Pose...Our past is indeed a warehouse of information and experiences which we can use as references as we move along in life.It teaches us through trail and error method and sometimes the hard way too,to sort the chaff from the wheat and to stir the course of our life wisely and with less of heart aches and mistakes.... .But I am afraid not all people are like this. There are some who never learn anything or try to guide themselves rightly even after bitter experiences and fall in the same slippery mess all the time......They just tend to take life as it comes and fail to learn or correct themselves from their mistakes of the past...I really feel sorry for such people......

Hi Rose, Thank you for commenting. We all learn from our experiences, even those who we say never learn from their mistakes learned that attitude at a young age. Sometimes it is difficult for us to understand how it could have happened. It's possible I suppose that attitudes can be inherited and stems from an experience of an ancestor. Now isn't that an interesting thought? Blessings.

I agree wholeheartedly....Every thought, action, reaction, opinion etc etc etc that I have is based solely on how my life has gone to this point..and sometimes when new things occurr my thoughts/action/reaction etc etc changes because of the new info or experience I've aquired....

I believe that right or wrong does enter into your thoughts and feelings concerning past experiences.. I have had people do things to me that were totally not right and I no longer speak to them, that gives me bad feelings about some of my past, some were family.. I have also had people be really good to me and I remember it and feel a good bit better about my past.. My past history has taught me to be a better person and when I remember how I was treated, it makes me want to treat others better.. I think that I am a better person because of some incidents in my past, or at least I hope I am.. Because of parts of my past, I don't like to see anyone hurting or being hurt.. I love my peace and quiet, and wish for this feeling for everyone.. I am a bit more cynical and a lot less trusting due to some of the experiences from my past.. I used to trust anyone on their word alone but that was so naive, I am very mush less trusting now.. We are our past.. The past shapes us into entirely different people than we started out being..

All our values & reactions to situations are based on our past experiences. For eg: if we touch a hot surface & get a burn, we realize that it is dangerous to touch hot items, similarly if we have been reprimanded by our parents for some deeds we grow up thinking that it will be awrong act to do. A wise man once said that, anyone who wishes to control us puts a feeling of guilt in us.

You are really right Pose123! You're past experiences really affected your future. I can said it because of my own experiences. I really had a bad experiences before and it keeps on hunting my mind. I can't think very clear because of that, but it serves as my inspiration. Experience is the best teacher.
