Hrm.. we have all three. I think they have different purposes. I've used white pepper and black pepper when cooking and I believe their is a difference in taste. I am not, however, a cook. I couldn't really tell you when which pepper is better from a culinary standpoint. Red pepper, being hotter, tends to be restricted to a more narrow usage in my house.

I actually have all three and I use the black pepper the most cause your right it just goes with everything and enhances the flavor best. I use the red pepper in chili and stuff that I want to give a kick to. The white is mixed with garlic which is something I like to sprinkle on almost everything..but I do use the Black the most.

hi ersmommy1, my dear friend, i have white and black pepper in my house. i general we use blackpepper as a whole and in powder form. like i generally use black powdereed pepper on my sandwiches, boiled egg etc...i also like it on some of my fruits or fruit salad. i think as you have said, black pepper is the best standby pepper and i can use it every where and on everything that i eat. it is very good for the health too.i like it in my soups too. hot soups with a dash of pepper . its sooo tasty.

Hi dear
we have all three pepper in home and we have green chilli as well( fresh)
Mostly Red pepper is used in our house and in our continental dishes
while some dishes taste great in black pepper
chinese dishes are good in white pepper.
our continental foods are mostly spicy and very tasty, hmmm, yummy

Well, I have tried the White and Black but never the Red. Not even sure where to get this one to try it even. But overall the one we have in our house the most is the Black. For me I think the White is a little better and not as strong but harder to find, so we just have the black one for now and use it a lot of times in food. But for me, my best one for Flavor is the Lemon Pepper, and I use that one most of the time now for spice as well.

I keep red and black in my cabinets - though I am sure I have had white pepper I have never felt compelled to buy or use it. I guess I thought it was used for esthetic reasons so that those who are disturbed by the look of black pepper will have the flavor but not the distraction of black pepper?
does white pepper actually taste different?

I use black pepper when I am cooking. I am not really one for spicy foods normally, so this is the extent that I go to for pepper. I have tried cayenne pepper before, and it is too spicy for me. I have never had white pepper before though. I would think that it is the strongest by the looks of it (you know, white heat?)

I never thought that I would be a pepper afficianado. That is until I bought one of those peppercorn mills that you get in the spice section of the supermarket. The one that I buy combines white red and black. Love it. Hard to choose because I like the taste of all three but I think that red is my favorite.
