we hear the same complaints from the teachers from our school, also. especially with working parents,.. it is difficult to get them to come for meetings and such.. but, for myself.. i take meetings with teachers very seriously. i would take leave from work if needed to, to attend the meetings.. i think it is also good for the children to actually 'see' that their parents are serious about the schooling matters.. i have always shared my worries with the teachers of my children, i often ask for their feedback on how my children's progress in school.. not just the academic stuff.. but on how they behave in school, with their friends and with their teachers.. also to know if they've really been doing and submitting all their schoolworks, and all that... most of the public schools in our country are actually 'overcrowded' - with more than 30 students in one class.. i think it is a good idea to be 'actively involved' in school meetings, and such.. because i think that when you make yourself 'visible' to the teachers.. they will take notice of your children.. and somehow pay some attention to them in class, despite of having too many children to take notice and pay attention to..

i remember my daughter saying to me,mom when she was in school one time mom when you are not here my teacher talk to me badly but when you come to the school she is all sweet to me.i had a talk with the teacher about this it was affecting my child how she was treating her.i never had this problem again.so alsort of problem can arise at school.thats another reason why we want to keep a close eye on the going on at school espeacially the meeting.

Yes I did when my only son was still schooling. I believe this is a way of showing support to him. Our child will feel secure when he sees that his parents are very supportive of him so I did took out a lot of time in attending the school meetings myself.

I do attend my child's school meetings. I want to know what's going on in at my child's school and she is doing in her class so that I will know what to do f she needs help. I stay walking distance from the school so I should not have a reason not to attend.

I always attend my children's school meetings! I agree they are so important to your child's education. Not only are you getting the low down but your also showing your child how important their education is.If you make it a priority..they will too. Nice discussion by the way annjilena!

During last year we have started having parents day in the evening instead of morning. I can say from my epxierience in this profession that it made little difference for parents. Some parents have found it convenient to attend in the evening because they have to go to work in the morning. However those parents who do not care less would not attend whether it is in the morning or in the evening. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

Hi annji, My Son is now 28 but I always went to his school meetings. He is my Son, I always wanted him to know that I was therre and the teacher to know I was part of his learning whether at school or at home. I went to face the music, good or bad. It's the duty of a parent to show up anshow you care. leenie

I remember when I was at school, I really didn't want my parents to attend the parents-teachers meeting. I couldn't ever be a very good student at school. All the teachers did love me but they found me very mischievous. I was good at studies and all but I was mischievous too you know. So I never used to tell my parents that a meeting is going to be held. Sometimes I used to tell mom about the meetings but then I used to tell her that its not compulsory to attend these meetings...(hee hee hee !!!)

I have not missed a single meeting at my daughters school with her teachers. I have also made it to back to school night every year and we also do the ice cream social that the school host 2 days before school starts so that the parents and the teachers can meet. I can say that the school my daughter attends has a high parent turn out. Such a shame that not all parents are able to or willing to invest as much as the parents at my daughters school do into there children and the children of others. Its always a great time to get together with the teachers at my daughters school. Even if I would rather be at home. lol.
