I opened up my AOL today and saw this headline, "BWI - Breastfeeding While Intoxicated". I am thinking... "Oh.. MY... LORD!! What was she thinking?!!!! Allanah Earley, 36, of Durham, CT, decided that it was OKAY to take her THREE WEEK OLD BABY, out to a bar, down about 6 or more alcoholic drinks, wandered out into to cold to a friend's house and continued to breastfeed the baby. Cops arrested her and The Dept. of Children and Families was contacted. Again, what was she thinking? No, stupid question... she was not thinking. She is either a drunk, a fool or both. I am wondering why she thought that this was okay, but then again, there are tons of drug addicts out there breeding. I should know, a friend of mine adopted two crack babies, who are happy and healthy these days and growing up in a wonderful environment. Here is the link if you wish to see for yourselves... http://www.parentdish.com/2009/01/08/bwi-breastfeeding-while-intoxicated/

I guess you could say she wasn't thinking. She was drunk! Its a good thing they took the baby away from her. I hope they don't give her back, either!

I prefer that they give this mother help, get her in AA, rehab and training on how to be a parent. I hate to see kids taken away, permanently, if they can get the person straight, but she would have to be under a lot of supervision. I have seen such people have the child given to family and have supervised visits until they can prove that they are okay, but it does not go away quickly. It is a lifetime commitment to staying straight.

Yes, that would be best, if it can be done.

Hi nanajanet, I read the article that you have posted. I think that this mother needs some lessons in mother care. It makes you sad that such a mother is able to conceive a child and is not taking care of the baby properly while ther are aother women who would do everthing to have a baby and cannot be pregnant. Wow! She must have been stupid. To be drunk and do something like that amazes me, but she had to be sober when she went to the bar with the baby, right? Who brings a baby to a bar?! She should not have trusted herself when she made the decision to go to a bar.

She should be ashamed of herself but she probably isn't or she wouldn't have done it in the first place.. Too many instances of women having babies but not being mothers.. A real mother would never jeopardize her young like this.. I think this child might benefit by being put in a home with loving parents..

Quite shocking! Like you said, both drunk and a fool! Even more shocking is that she took the baby to the bar! How selfish some people can be... Obviously has her responsibilities as a parent all mixed up

*sigh* Some women are just not meant to be mothers. I feel so sad for the baby :(
