How to format my flash drive

I Think my flash drive affected by virus. For this reason I can't copy or delete any documents from my flash drive(usb pen drive, even I can't format it. When I want to format, It's displayed write protected. Can anyone help me to remove it or how to format it.

Even i've had that problem before. You can format the flash drive from dos. It will work.

Thanks for your response. Sorry to say I am a new user and my operating system is Windows Xp (sp2). I don't know how to use dos. Can you explain in details how to format in using dos? Be well

Go to command prompt and being on another drive...for example, C:\format (name of the drive letter of flash drive): then press enter example, C:\format I:

hey i had the same problems like 2 months ago,what you do is either try to puyt the flah and immediatley format it,or if that doesnt which will propably not cuz u have viruses which activate when u polug ur flash so u try try doownloading the program called the 'USBguard'which will detect all virus in your flash drive beofre they get into ur computer they u can freely format u flashdrive woithout worries...take care..hope i helped
