Many countries have their own sorts of embroidery and some are really famous. I particularly like the shisa (mirror) embroidery done in India. What other regional embroidery types do you know of?

Applique, Back-stitch, Bead Embroidery, Blackwork, Broderie Anglaise(eyelet), Buttonhole, Chenille, Crewel, Cross-Stitch, Cut-work, Delft, Drawn-thread, French Laid Embroidery, Hardanger, Huck-weaving, Lattice-work, Mediaeval, Mirror, Needlepoint, Netting, Persian, Punchwork, Ribbonwork, Sashiko, Shadow work, Shisa, Shishu, Smocking, and Stumpwork. I'll also add Trapunto because to me, its more about the outlining than the stuffing! I've done all of these over the years, and may be missing a few but the memory slips... lol. Beadwork, Blackwork, Cross-stitch, Cutwork, Hardanger, Mirror, Ribbon, Sashiko and Shadow have to be my favorites. I used several of them to decorate the custom wedding dresses I used to make, with Ribbon the absolute favorite of my customers. I've used aluminum washers in some of my Mirror work, and it still looks brand-new, even after many washings. There's always a way to embellish the embellishment. Now my favorite is Sashiko... since having surgery on my neck and my hand, a running stitch works well for me, the results are practical (table runners, mostly) and all the geometric designs are gorgeous... plus its so easy to make up my own designs, using peoples' initials. Too much fun!
