Are You Seeing Prices Going DOWN???

We have this GREAT little family owned Drive-In/Carryout/Restaurant that has been in business a little over 30 years. They have the absolute BEST Hot Dogs with Chili & Onions that I have ever eaten. Their french fries are yummy also. They're always saying that their customers are their business. Well, now they are saying thank you!!! I treat myself to one of their Hot Dogs about once a week. Today was my day to treat myself. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that, now that gas prices have gone down, they've lowered the price of the Hot Dogs & their fries to "pre-outrageous gas" prices. I was even more shocked when I realized that the savings was about $1.00 per meal. This is the FIRST place that I frequent that has lowered prices as the price of gas has lowered. No, I take that back, WalMart has done it too, but not by as large percentage as this restaurant did. I hope this is a trend that will permeate this town!!! Are you seeing prices going down where you shop, eat, or whatever you do to spend money???

Our gas prices jumped up about 27/gal cents in one week. Now they seem to be going back down little by little. I find $1.49/gal MUCH better than $3.99/gal. The cheapest gas I had bought right before the price jumped was $1.32/gal. Then we jumped up to $1.59/gal. In the last 2 days I'm seeing more station changing to $1.49/gal. WalMart lowered the price of milk about 20 cents a gallon. Cheerios went down about 30 cents a box. And as I mentioned here, my Hot Dog & Fries went down $1.00 per order. I paid $3.00 last week & $2.00 this week. That's about a 34% decrease. That excites me. I hope this idea spreads across the country!!!

Food prices aren't going down at same rate as gas prices, but I am seeing a few item 10-20 cents less. That's why I got so excited of a drop from $3 to $2. I grumbled when they upped the price, so I thought I should brag on them when they lowered it.

I can't see prices going down nowadays. Almost all are raising up. It is very hard to have a budget. When will this crisis will end?

I don't see much going down. I only see more items getting smaller. If the toilet paper makers make the rolls any smaller, they will be charging by the piece!!! The ice cream makers will be selling by the spoon full. A gallon of milk has gone down 11 cents. Cheerios hasn't raised their prices, but their content has gone down by 2 ounces.

So many businesses are failing and others are fighting to stay alive that they are lowering prices to get customers to come in. Now is a good time for everyone to go out and get bargains. It will help everyone!

Now that the holidays are over, so are the lower prices. That is why when I saw a dollar off on my Hot Dog Dinner I got excited!!!

That's amazing - this business certainly knows how to keep their customers happy ... and KEEP their customers! I haven't noticed anything like that - exactly the opposite actually, as I withdraw a certain amount for groceries every fortnight and there is less and less over for extra bread, milk, etc., each time. Soon I'll have to start drawing out a much larger amount! (The fuel HAS gone down a bit ... but nowhere near as low as it's supposed to have gone!)

Hi ladymarissa, I think that this restaurant deserves the best award how cliens are treated. Unfortunately such things rarely happen in my counry. Usually prices go up but are very hard to go down. It seems that big companies find excuse to raise their prices but than they do not adjust their prices accordingly when the gas price is low

It seems like our gas prices are going back up. I have been finding loads of online deals on various shopping sites. As far as brick and mortar stores, I haven't been seeing prices going down. In fact, on loads of things, they seem to be going up.

I'm not really seeing prices go down, they seem to be rising-especially in the grocery store! The lard I buy to make suet with for the birds was $2.69 last year and now it's $5.99! It's cheaper to buy commercial suet but they don't like that as much. I'm glad you patronize a family business, good for you!

Groceries skyrocketed here, leveled off some & finally going down 10-20 cents at a time. NO where near as fast as it went up & I doubt they'll come back down to where they were!!!

Petrol prices yes. Food at the major supermarkets, yes. Everywhere seems to have a sale on and the stores still aren't getting the punters in to spend. People are trying to hang onto their cash for as long as they can. Oh, interest rates are down too. So the cost of my mortgage is down as is the return I get on my savings! Can't have it all I suppose.

My mortgage is on a fixed rate so no change. My savings rate has gone down 2% so I'm NOT very happy about that!!!

I noticed the price of milk the last time I was grocery shopping. It had been either close to or just over $4.00 a gallon but is now down to $2.69 a gallon. I'm sure other things have gone down in price as well. I think that maybe the stores, shippers, growers, etc. have finally recouped their losses when gasoline prices were so high and are now able to bring their prices down. I hope they stay down awhile... they could even come down more... I wouldn't mind! I've noticed gasoline prices starting to rise a bit again and that worries me.

I work on weekends for a small package delivery company. Their fuel surcharge was up to 59% at the highest gas prices. They are down to 23%. The shipper passes this surcharge on to the stores & the stores passes it on to us. Of course, with each pass, there is a little bit extra for shipper/store. Chit rolls down hill!!!

I hope it's a trend too. They're telling on the news here that if you're willing to barter, you might get them to lower the price. Just don't talk to the sales clerk. They suggest you ask to speak to the manager. Or ask the clerk & when they respond that they aren't authorized to do that, ask to speak to someone who can. If the authorized person is lazy, they might just give the clerk the OK to keep from dealing with it.

Nope, I haven't seen them going down but we did do our grocery shopping yesterday and I think we got about the same amount of stuff as usual and the bill was lower then usual. I'd have to actually sit down and compare receipts to say for sure though.

That is really good news where you are. Where I live food prices are still soaring. A can of Tuna has doubled (more actually) in a week. Well maybe theres a Tuna shortage or something but Mayonaise in a jar here has nearly doubled also. The gas prices here got really high, but they have come down slightly in the past few weeks, so hopefully we will follow suit and get cheaper food. The only thing I have saw cheap is boards outside hair salons offering great discounts, but I used to be a hairdresser and can do my own hair so I will not get a bargin on that one.

Grocery prices are still high here too. It's just that I have seen s couple of items go down 10-20 cents lately. Not enough to brag about. Still I get excited when I see $3 go down to $2. Nice reduction!!!

I've heard that this is happening over there in the US. I guess it must be true but I doubt it will happen that easily here in Trinidad. In this country there are few controls and people just capitalize like anyhow they want. For an underdeveloped country Trinidad has a history of not doing the necessary to get ahead with the rest of the world. That, by the way, is a government policy, if you get to understand this island.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed that most of the places I go to, have lowered their prices. I noticed it the most at the SuperStore I go to. Almost everything was reduced in price which I thought was great. It definately makes it easier for me and my family to buy the things we need without going broke. I hope that it stays that way cause I am sure that it would help out a lot of people, especially those that are being effected by the economy right now.

I noticed gas prices dropping, which makes me happy. They were down to about $1.90 the last time I checked, and I wanted to fill up in advance, but my Mom didn't want me to keep a gas can in the garage. Then I think the prices went back up... oh well.
