Its sad to write this article, as Patrick McGoohan was a great actor. Number 6 has passed away at the age of 80. If you haven't seen The Prisoner, then this is one to watch. There are 17 episodes. One show some of you will remember is Danger Man, as he was in 47 episodes. Have you watched the show? He did guest appearances for many television shows including The Simpsons, Columbo, and Murder She Wrote. There are many movies also. My husband recently watched Ice Station Zebra, which is one that he has watched many times. Escape from Alcatraz and Clint Eastwood is in this one also, and Mary, Queen of Scots that has an impressive cast. He will be missed, as another amazing talent is gone. My sad thoughts to his wife over over 50 years and his children. Its amazing to know how many great roles he turned down. I would have enjoyed watching him in Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

I was just looking at the article before I saw your discussion! He was such a talented, handsome man. He could be the consummate villain or a tragic hero. The world has lost a great, great actor. I loved The Prisoner.

Patrick McGoohan - Patrick McGoohan as Number Six in The Prisoner.
Man, this is a real bummer. He's one of my all-time favorite actors. If you've never seen PMcG in The Prisoner, I highly recommend youdo. It's my favorite TV show period. And Danger Man is one of the earliest and best spy shows ever produced. Particularly the half hour ones. BTW, there were actually 86 Danger Man episodes. 39 of the half hour ones and 47 of the hour long ones Pat also played the title character in Dr. Syn alias The Scarecrow (Scarecrow of Romney Marsh) which you may have seen on the Wonderful World of Disney way back in the day. That laugh scared the crap out of me as a kid. Patrick had a real career comeback back in the mid-late 90's with The Phantom, Braveheart, and A Time To Kill, all excellent films. There's alot of old movies that people have forgotten about that Patrick was in that are quite good. McGoohan was excellent in ALL of them! A real pro, a nice man, and a real loss to the world of cinema and TV. Rest In Peace Patrick.

I agree a real star passed away and haven't seen him do a bad role. He turned down 2 roles that surprised many people, as they were huge hit movies. I know many of the younger generation would know him, if he chosen to do the Harry Potter role. He was very selective in his roles and sure will be missed. Thanks for the reply.

I am really about to show my age here, and will probably be branded as a "youngin" for the rest of my days here at MyLot lol. The only thing you mentioned that I would be familiar enough to know guest stars in is The Simpsons. Who did he play on that show? Hopefully I watched that episode so I will remember. I know I could just go to http://www.imdb.com to find out, but in the interest of furthering the conversation, I wanted to ask you first.

He played number six in 2000 on The Simpsons. It was just one episode; however, its one of my favorites. Thanks for the reply.

My sympathies to his family too...at least he left a mark in our hearts....so he won't be forgotten. I see Ricardo Montalbon also passed today...another one we will always remember!

Thanks for the reply. Its so sad to see these actors will not be able to do any more acting roles. There were two that he was considering.
