Keep a can of soup/beefaroni/etc. in your car (make sure it's pop top). Better than money. If I have nothing I ignore them/look away. I guess I'm embarrassed.

forgot a funny story: I had an old boss tell me that he used to run a burger king. A guy always came in to beg for food. Andy said he offerd him a job and the guys asked what it paid and he said $4.15 an hour (way back when that ws min. wage). The guys said he could make double that an hour standing on the corner!

$6 to $6,000,000 - $6 to $6,000,000
I don't give money. I support shelters or I give food. If you give money, you aren't sure how it will be used.

yes usually, i do ignore them. but its not easy to always walk away, like from the panhandlers on the subway. the ones who take the time to walk right to me and stretch out their hand. that is a blatant turn down. its not like walking by and ignoring someone with a sign. thats prob why panhandlers get more- they are more personal.

I find it interesting how many of the homeless guys are fairly clean and don't look abnormally hungry. They also always seem to have a new pair of shoes or a nice shirt on. The people in Houston also have on name-brand baseball caps that might cost $30-$40 a piece. So no, I don't stop and give them anything. My Grandfather owns a nursing home and one of the people in it was homeless, and he said he made anywhere from $400 to $700 a week, plus free food and clothes

Well in our town, there are a couple of heavy traffic intersections where the supposed homeless always stand. It's always just one at a time at the spot, never 2. But it's usually 1 of a couple of people we always see. We figured out that it's an organized scam. Homeless people don't always beg in the same places for long. Yet we'll see the same couple of people work the same spots, with the same signs. And they're not badly dressed, or carrying a duffle bag. These people look clean. That's a telltale sign. I don't give money to organized beggers. It's a scam.
