Nobody could touch it: Not the recession, not competitors, not its own employees and their various lawsuits. But now it seems the veneer is cracking, and the Wall Street Journal (subscription required), for one, is piling on with the speculation that Aldi may topple the giant retailer.

We have a small Aldi's near us and the price of what they do have is great. but form what I see in their store they have a long ways to go to compete with Walmart. They don't have the variety nor the same products. Maybe in the future but from what I see in our Aldi store they have a long way to go. I shop Aldi's when ever I can but still have to go to other stores such as Wal-mart for a lot of things.

They may be planning on expanding their merchandise. I am not sure, but they plan on opening more stores and that could mean increased inventory. Appreciate the response.

The one near me doesn't have room for any more merchandise unless they add to the building.

If they are intending on a competition with Walmarts then I would assume that will mean an increased inventory....

Aldi is really great and cheaper than Wal-Mart--however it is similar in size and items to its competitor Sav-A-Lot--who, unlike Aldi, alllows more than just cash as a payment. I don't keep the kind of cash a grocery order at Aldi might cost on me, so unless they allow more types of payments and grow a department store hooked on, it's likely they won't put Walmart out of business. It's great for grabbing a whole bunch of cheap food though--eggs only cost $.99 for large there and it is hard to find that size for under a dollar at any other store.

I am hoping for their rapid expansion and very happy they have plans to do so much more. I agree with you, Walmarts may be on their way out and have to make changes to stay on top. Go Aldi, and Gods speed to them...Its about time...

Forgot to mention, they also treat employees better at Aldi's. They allow even the American Aldi's cashiers sit down and they get paid more than Walmart people. America has this big thing about standing up which ruins cashiers backs, as it has caused arthritis in more than one person besides me. I could be a cashier at this store and get paid a good wage, so I hope they open up more locations just so I can apply.

Aldi is one of my favorite stores. I shop there at lease once every two weeks or more. The products are good and there is a good variety too. The fresh produce is less expensive than the local supermarkets.

I personally have no knowledge of this store Aldi but I know where I live Wal- Mart it the only place to shop unless you count K-Mart ( which I do not ) So for Christmas of course I had to go shopping at Walmart. After it was all said and done I had to take back thre items that I had bought for my four y/o because they didn't work. I was very disappointed in the prices to begin with and then after she opened them and they didn't work needless to say I was enraged .... So any type of competition for Walmart would be a great idea. Wonder if Aldi sells stocks ... lol Would love to invest in them right now.

Its really exciting...to know they are going to be here. This was some great news. I think that it will make Walmart have to work harder to be on top and they well may overtake them....Welcome Aldi!

Hi eaforeman, In my personal experience, I prefer at Aldi also since it is more cheaper especially in this time of crisis! It is more practical to shop there but we can't avoid to miss also going to Walmart once in while! LOL!

Walmarts is like a habit for many people. lol Its great to know that Aldi will be cheaper and it could cause Walmarts to lower their prices due to competition....this could be great for everyone. It would also mean more jobs.

ARe you talking about aldi's the grocery store? Wow! It's good walmart has some competition.....with their bad reputation on how they treat some of their employees it would be good to have someone else give them a run for their money!

I know that Aldi is HUGE in Europe. I love this store. I only shop there rarely since it is located in the next large town from ours (about 20 minutes away). But it is GREAT!
