Does your cat watch TV?

Cats watching TV (not mine) - Some cats watching TV

Since we have had our new TV I've noticed that the cats have been watching it A LOT! They would occasionally watch the old one but now that we have a big screen they are both turning into quite the fury little TV junkies! Do your cats watch TV? Do they ever attack the screen?

Funnily enough, my two cats just love to watch television. When they hear or see something with action they immediately have their atention caught. Fortunately, they havn't attacked the screen that often, but when there is some documentary about animals especially birds and other flying species they do try to catch them. Besides, I would notice if they get bored with something that's on tv as they would turn their back to it. Strange eh

Technically it's just a spray bottle for plants. It only gets implemented when they scratch the furniture or the screen door - and now the TV!

By the way jesssp...I just noticed that the number beside your name has just reached over 500. If I'm not mistaken, you can now use the cut and paste option while posting a comment. Perhaps you are already aware of this? Thanks for the interesting topics today! I've rated your responses +

Thanks so much, puddytat! I did know I can copy and paste but have yet to come up with a use for it. One advantage is now I can type my responses in Word and then paste them in when The Boss Man is around.

I was thinking if you had a catch phrase you could use like a signature. When I reach 500 mine will be "Have a purrrfectly groovy day. Meow & ciao!"

My current two kitties don't watch TV, but I used to have one cat, named Willie that went wild with one particular kiddie show that was on PBS named Wishbone...it was about a Russell Terrier and every day "he" would introduce a famous classic novel and "act" it out..well, the moment that theme song came on, he'd come running up to the TV and try to catch the doggie..then sit and watch the show.

I remember Wishbone! My little sister used to watch it all the time, it was such a cute show. Our cats prefer Animal Planet, it must be the animal sounds that grab their attention.

Yes my cat likes to watch animal planet, he actually watches those nature shows they have on there, and sometimes he even watches cartoons.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if we just notice it more but our cats do seem to genuinely prefer Animal Planet. I swear their favorite show is 'Planet's Funniest Animals'. I think it's all the movement combined with the animal sounds more than anything.

Meow! Riarowww!! I've had so many cats that they call me the Cat Lady. I'm down to 3 now and to answer your question, yes. Of all the cats I've had over the years there have many many times I've caught the fatter cats lounging around and watching "3rd Rock From the Sun". I don't know if they liked the music or the planets spinning around on the show. One time I remember one of my cats batting at the tv during a Nascar race. It was the funniest thing. I hate racing but it was on when I came in from work. I left it on just to laugh! Meow & ciao!

My cat doesn't watch TV but I have caught her watching my music visualizer on the computer sometimes. There is a lot of movement and she prolly just gets interested, lol. She also sleeps right underneath the TV on the cable box (it gets really warm there), I don't see how she does it because I imagine it gets very loud. She must not mind the noise and is more interested in moving objects when she is "watching" something.

Lol, that is sweet. My brothers cat watches hockey. I think that they are watching the puck. It is funny that you make this post as last night when I was watching t.v., my little dog, who was laying beside me, sat right up, her ears perked up and she was watching the t.v. Cocking her head back and forth. At Christmas, when the caroling was on t.v., she also watched that. I have never seen my brothers cat attack the screen but I have a feeling that he'd like too. The t.v. isn't a wise screen either. My t.v. isn't either. A cat or dog that watch t.v. is awesome. Especially for my dog. It is a great way to have her entertained while I get some things done around the house. She gets bored playing with her toys by herself. Thanks for the post.

It is pretty cute. I love when they tilt their heads to one side like something on TV is confusing them!

Yes, my cat will watch TV when we are all watching TV in the family room. I think it's funny too. She doesn't always watch it, she is picky I guess but depending on what we are watching, she will come in and sit right in front of us on the floor - facing the TV and watch it. I always wonder what she is thinking! My dad once gave me a DVD movie that was made for cats and it had birds and squirrels on it - it was a nature movie and I put it in for her and she wasn't interested at first but WOW, when she actually watched it, she was completely hypnotized or something. She would go up and stand up to try and touch the screen then she was seriously confused and kept looking behind the TV to see where the birds went. She couldn't understand that they weren't real.. it was really funny. Sometimes when we are watching a TV show, she will go up to the TV and reach out her paw like she wants to tough the little person in the box. I love it!

The only time our cats really go for the screen is if there's lots of movement. They especially like video games for that reason.

My cat loves laying on the TV and she often changes the channel and sometimes there appears the weird picture with something gray and whit whcih my mom calls "snowflakes".When my cat turns the TV on this channel she goes to the sofa and stays there for 5 minutes without moviin and then her eyes become twice bigger and 10 seconds after that she jump directly on the TV and starts scratching everything. The first three times this seemed to be funny for me but after all I decided to put something on the buttons at the top of the TV because I am affraid she might jump of the window-she is scared from the sound my TV makes when this channel is on for 1 minutes. Now she is learning to use the remote controller.Happy MyLotting! ^^*Sorry for my EN!*^^

Hi Jesssp, you have beautiful cat and there are cute, big and small, I have a cat but sometime she will be watching TV, but not as much as your cat, my cat like to find her friend play together, so she always went out, and will come back for having her lunch or dinner.

I've only seen our cat do this once or twice. It happened when there was an odd animal sound (like a bird screeching I think). It was funny! But she doesn't make a habit of it. Maybe she's more of a reader.hehehe

I noticed the exact same thing when I got my first big screen TV. None of my cats ever watched TV until I got it. Once they had big screen, they became "couch potatoes." *BG* I guess all of us who love our kitties know they are finicky... maybe a small TV just isn't good enough for them!

lol...I have one little one that does it. She is a 3 month old kitten and has watched tv since my son brought her home. She loves to watch anything, even the news! I She lays on the bed at night right in front of the tv and watches till she can't watch anymore.
