How Much Money Do You Spend On Canned Goods

I spend $25 a week stocking up on can goods because of the bad economy. The reason why I spend so, much money on canned goods because, the United States economy could go into hyper-inflation when the value of the dollar is worth nothing. I put my canned goods into a storage room.

I buy very few canned goods. The few that I buy are to replenish/restock our earthquake supply. Most of what I buy is fresh and sometimes buy forzen but I try to stay away from canned and frozen because of the sodium content

I would have to say that I spend about $50 per month for 2 people on canned food products. Most of the canned foods, I purchase on sale or from the Grocery Canned Food Outlet. Although I do prefer to use fresh or frozen foods, there are some foods that only come canned, like spaghetti sauce and chili. One thing I've learned over the years is to avoid the impulse shopping. I really think hard now, about everything I put in the cart. I not only consider the price, but the nutritional contribution, and the cost of other ingredients I would need to also purchase to make a meal using the particular product.

You really, really stock up. My husband has put a limit on the can buying, cause we ran out of room and the home is getting cluttered. I do count on can goods to make bigger hotdishes to provide more food. Trouble is, the kids don't like the canned vegies and won't eat it. The best can stuff is low sodium soups, tomato products, and beans. Some of the vegies, I admit, do taste wrong. I have not become super worried about a hyper-inflation yet.

Only a couple dollars. Friends giveus boxes of cans, and we've signed up with a local charity to give us a free box every now and again. Our pantry (that is, a couple metal shelves in the basement, heh) is pretty decent. It'd last us a few months, if that's all we had. I'm HOPING that our effort to turn this scrap of property into a small farm wll provide enough to can some of our own stuff.

Once we get our foodstamp card, we're going to seriously stock up on the foods we eat on a regular basis. Then we're also going to get those foods that will last quite a while. I don't know how long we're going to have this card because I'm not sure how long my hours are will stay up or what. I'll just have to take it while I can. Now if I could just get something that would help us with the non-food items.

I don't buy a specific amount per month. If there is a good sale going on (right before Thanksgiving, Walmart had veggies for 25 cents per can) I stock up on them. The price of all canned items are going up. Now it is difficult to find canned veggies for even 50 cents! We have our own garden and what I don't produce in the garden fresh I try to buy fresh from the farmers markets in the summer as well. I can these items for our use. It turns out cheaper than buying canned veggies from the grocery store. You are right about our economic problems. I am very worried about it! We have been stocking up for a while. How long have you been stocking up? What else do you stock up on besides canned goods?

I don't buy many canned goods, but I'm just one person. I do have some canned meat, chili and soups that are more or less emergency supplies. I garden and can some vegetables, but tend to freeze more than anything. I do have dry foods like beans and grains stored in gallon jars. That much goes a long way.

I spend about $50.00 once per month! I rely on mostly frozen foods (all my eggs in one basket)...but I do have a generator in case power goes out. In summer, I have a rather large garden, (saved & saved)...got myself a "food saver" which vacuums & seals all my food! I certainly agree with what you are doing...as WHO knows where this economy is going? Do you do home canning as well? Cheers!

How do you track you supplies to make sure that you used them before their expiration date? I was surprised when I went through my pantry to donate items to a local food bank, how many things had expired and we don't keep a big stock pile. You don't want to put $25 a week into your stock pile if it turns into waste later.
