At What Age Do You Plan To Retire...

and how do you plan to have it? Age is catching up with me now. I have planned for my retirement years ago but, it came without warning. Therefore, i was not fully prepared for its coming. Although I have planned that I will be spending my olden years at the farm, it it not yet at its desirable liveable level until now. The house is not as good as it should be. And the farm is not well maintained, either. How i went through with the preparations? First I bought three hectares of land and started developing it into a mango grove. Then my son got exceedingly ill. I had to abandon further development of the area. Now, visits to the place are so few and far between. I am most into attending to my son's needs. But, at this time, i am retired from work, alright.

Hubby and I were just talking about this last week and we said it was unfortunate we will never be able to retire financially. We are both on our second marriage and hubby is already 61 and the best we can hope for is to get somewhat caught up and hopefully our pension will keep us going. I hope your son is getting better and all will be well again soon.

hello, grandma. it is quite coincidental then with your retirement troubles when this thought crossed my mind. it can never be helped when we have reached our ages to be thinking of this situation. it seems that i cannot retire, too. the farm is there alright, but i cannot even live there until my son will be fit enough. he is continuously getting better. this is true. by now, he has only mild attacks. nothing to worry about at all anymore. i am so thankful for this development. however, i can never leave him here in the city while i will be living in the farm. this is my dilemma. always, my priority will be to see my son through life for as long as he lives. for as long as he needs me.

wow, I trully empathize with how you feel. Most of the time, if not always, naturally, mothers are caring and nurturing for their kids. Upon reading your response, I admire that you take care of your kids. I seldom hear fathers caring for their kids needs that sometimes, mothers have to teach them how & what their needs are. Your positive attitude, love and care is trully admirable as a father.

i am sorry to hear that your son is ill. well I hope he would do fine. for me, i had not think of my retirement yet. I am just almost getting my first degree. well if i do according to the governments plan i would have work until 55 years old. but if i could i think i want to retire at age 45 years old. then i want to travel around the world to see different things and help people again.

i have encountered some people from europe who are able to retire at 35 to 40 years old. it is good to be working in such countries where there are lots of options to choose from in terms of length of service in the job and the corresponding retirment pay that one gets entitled to. for you, lovesummer, may your plans be realized. good luck, my friend.

In our country the retirement from Governmental service is limited to 55 years. I am a retired senior government official. Incidentally, I am not happy with my post retirement life.It is felt that I could very well have performed much more in my capacity in the government machinery.I fear I am becoming more lethargic and pessimistic in outlook.

you are still very young. there is still so much that you can do with your life. in my country, a government employee may retire anywhere between 60 and 65 years old. this means that this is the signal for the start of our old age pension. for the military, they are forced to retire at 56 years old. so they start to be receiving their pensions much earlier. however, just like you sukumar, there are some pensioners who no longer know what to do after having retired. this is government has overlooked. there must be guidance as to what retirees can do to be productive still. there are a lot of very capable retirees around the globe and they are not being tapped for more productive matters.

by the way, sukumar, why not try to be teaching in the university? in our place, retirees usually teach in college.

Middle aged people normally always have this thought of a certain age of getting a retirement. But actually in my opinion, retirement is unknown unless you really want yourself to stop working and just bumming around and enjoying your time and yourself. There are quite a number of people who do not have work, either they are just too lazy to look one, or just unlucky enough. Thing is, I don't think that it is only exactly based on a figure but to what we want do with our lives. I hope in in most companies in the Philippines would have this thought of hiring hiring seniors for a job that they are actually good and obviously quite strong enough to do so. For me retirement is not only just base on how old a person is, but this is the time of letting go of the other things that we used to work and to do, and spend more time to ourselves.

actually, smooch, by philippine standards, i am a retired individual already. however, i am still very much at work and earning my keep. farmwork is not an easy thing to deal with. it takes more than physical strength to be successful at it.

it is true that we can never be fully retired. always, there are so many things to do. would you believe me when i tell you that i may no longer be working for any entity anymore but, my current job at the farm is way more demanding? i love this work, though. soooo very much.

I don't know right now when I plan to retire. I guess it will be when I can just no longer work. I enjoy working from home and earning money online. It is fun and rewarding.

wow, stephcjh! you must be earning enough with your online job. in that case, i can see why you do not look forward to retirement at all. good luck in your field of work, my friend.

one thing i will tell u friend...that the woman like u...as i have portrayed till now by my thots and our time spent here together, you will never retire, some people never take rest and even god doesn't give them that opportunity easily....same is with me, actually responsibilities keep changing, and we are never free. We can actually be retireed only if we catch beds, and may God keep us healthy and wish that our healths doesn't worsen to that level.....u ar eattending to your son's needs...how u call urself retired ??....I wish you that God gives you enough energy to spread greenary of ur farms and also smiles in ur family....

thank you very much eshaan, it is so kind of you to have fully understood my situation. however, it saddened me to know that you are also caught in a situation like mine. it is not easy to be coping with so much difficulties even when we are already of above middle age. i was really hoping that i can have an easy life after i get to be 50. staying at the farm and tending to some animals that will yield me money anytime that i prefer to do it. now, it seems that i can never be settled there as i have planned. anyway, it feels okay for me since the older children are supporting us and i can still make the farm productive. i hope that somehow life will also be good to you when you get to be older. i am much happier these days since my son's health has greatly improved for the past 2 years.

i think i want to retire when i am at the age of 60 to 65. i don't want to be working the rest of my life. i want to have the chance to see my son/s and daughter/s grow. i want to play with my grand children. being on the third generation of the Bristol family, as the 1st son of my day i had the responsibility to make the difference not just for my own family but for the rest of the family/relatives. before i make a retirement i want to make sure that everyone in the family had been stabled, if i need to support them all then so be it. there's only one shot in life and i don't want to waste it in sleep!

i do not plan to retire, but i have to when i'm at the age according to the government system.Because i do not want myself too free, that will be boring. But i can do something at my home, imagine that i can take care of my grandson or grand-daughter to school,or i can join some Old People Learning Class to learn some interesting, such as learn dancing, which belongs to old people only. And i can take a walk every morning in the park with my husband.Hands by hands will be more better.Do some delicious food, looking at my families eating all of them, that will be happy
