The world around you exists because you exist

Have you ever thought that maybe the world around you exists because everything is just in all in your mind? And that when you die, everything else goes with you. That they exist because you exist. That the world revolves around you literally. That you're actually all by yourself in this world. Because when you die, you really don't know what becomes of the world you've left behind.

Have you thought that the world around you might exist because someone else thinks it does? That it's all in someone else's mind, and when they die (or wake up) you, and the rest of the world, will cease to exist?

Thats a more interesting thought, and is exactly what mourners feels when they lose someone they love. They feel that the world doesnt make sense anymore, that the one that has gone was the one who makes real everything. Because of that it is very important to visit a mourner, to let them feel that the life goes on, that they are others with him, and he or she has to carry on.

if that happens, it will make this "someone else" a very special being. and the fact that you've figured out this person's special ability, you are reaching the level of his being, which complicates matters. so I'm trying to confine the situation within oneself only. and just to clarify, this "self" is NOT likened to a god-like being who can control everything or any event.

I can't really claim credit for the thought, as I'm pretty sure I read it in at least one book, and possibly several.

Interesting question. Have you seen Matrix lately??? Maybe you have, and thats the problem. It is a egoccentric feeling, but it is true. The deepness of the question dont match with the picture you have place on your profile. Maybe you have done this on porpuse? Anyway I think is more like a theological question.

yes, I have seen The Matrix but I can't see much connection, sorry. maybe a little but I wasn't thinking about the movie when I posted the question. also, there's a lot of people involved in the movie's concept. my idea was meant to localize that kind of belief in yourself alone. also, I said the world revolves around you "literally". so it wasn't meant to be ego-centric or self-centered. the world is happening and goes around because you exist. :)

You've put it quite nicely. I've posted discussions along this line a couple of times. We are as we think we are.

On a philosophical level, this is identical to the world as we see it. Existence in this universe is defined by the reality of your experience both in your proposed circumstance and in the one we assume is true. As far as we know or are concerned, matter and energy are just synapses firing, and even that can be questioned. Regardless of your conclusion on this question, you are left with your experience. You think, therefore everything else is. Forgive me if I have spoken in circles for the sake of brevity.
