I'm trying to lose weight but I have Crohn's Disease so I can't eat things like salads so I'm trying to modify my diet by not eating as much. Does anyone know how much you are supposed to exercise a day to lose a decent amount of weight? I have an exercise machine that is a recumbant bike. I can't stand very long while exercising so this works well for me but I'm never sure how many times a day or how long I should use it. Right now I do once a day for thirty minutes but I really want to drop the weight. And does drinking water really help to lose weight? I've heard things that go both way on that one. I just need advice, help... anything that anyone is willing to offer!!

You're supposed to exercise for atleast an hour everyday, but its understandable if alot of people can't / don't. Some dont find the time, and for others its rather hard... Drinking water DOES help you shed some weight, but its not going to be massively loads. Doing other things like yoga and things like that also help. Try something other then just pure exercise... try something you might enjoy... then you'll realise you're losing alot more then you expect ;)

Actually, you mention Yoga, I think I'm going to start trying to do that with my Wii Fit. They have a program on there that includes that and it's hard work!! Plus, playing with the Wii Fit is something I enjoy as long as I think about it and motivate my lazy butt to do it, lol. As far as exercising for an hour everyday, can it be 1/2 hour in the morning and in the evening or is it supposed to be all at once? I'm really trying, here!! LOL.

ya u have to increase the time limit though.Half an hour a day does nt help tat much.do it thrice a day.Once in the morning for 40 min. After brushing ur teeth,Have honey with hot water n then exercise for 40 min.Repeat the exercise in the afternoon n walk continously for 1 hr daily. This is enough i suppose.Avoid junk food.

Walk a lot, eat meals quantitatively less and in short intervals. never keep your stomach empty. Avoid all fatty things. And if you cannot do your biking for long time, then simply walk. Taking long walks helps a lot. Crunch exercising is a great thing to lose weight. It makes your abs flat, and tones up muscles. But never do one thing. Never go for the supplementary diets, or slimming capsules. They are full of side effects, and may ruin your body.

That's actually really good advice because I tried that when I was a little younger and a nurse I knew told me that the pills can have serious adverse effects on your liver. I wish the weather wasn't fifteen below here because it would make taking walks so much easier!!

Depending on your condition and level of fitness you can increase your time exercising. with that said, you must also remember that our bodies will adapt to a reduction in food intake in around three days. If the reduction is to great, the body will go into starvation mode, it attempt to conserve energy and will slow the metabolism. Your body will also adjust to exercise, if you do the same thing day in and day out, your body will become more proficient at that exercise and will accomplish the task by using less energy. To change up a little would mean nothing more than adjusting your speed, or resistance, for several mins. then return to your normal pace. Usually, I will use either a stationary bike or and eliptical trainer, while i watch football games. I have noticed that I will increase my speed while watching the game, and tend to slow down during commericals, plus it takes my mind off of the exercise. I have to switch back and forth as my feet go numb after about 30 mins. on the eliptical. Regarding water, we get fluids from the foods we eat and the intake of liquids. Doctors reccommend eight glasses a day, but if you are exercising hard and sweating you may need more. Just to keep in mind, too much water can also be dangerous but you would have to drink a whole bunch to get water toxicity. Due to your physical condition you might go to, http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/dieting-is-out-healthy-eating-is-in?page=2 has good information on food intake and for your medical condition. Good luck, Terry

Thank you guys for explaining. As for you BlueGoblin, don't make fun of things that you don't understand. You obviously don't know what this is so just don't talk about it. I'll live without your input.

I don't like illnesses that dictate the type of foods you can or can't eat..The amount of exercise it'll take for you to lose weight will depend initially on your metabolism and how much you're eating..Regular exercise will help that..Your bike sounds like a good place to start! Your body needs water for many things, but in use for dieting,it'll help to curb your appetite..good luck!

Hi, I have been trying to lose weight for the longest time and then I found a very easy way and now I can keep my weight where I want it and it is really not that hard. For one don't stop eating your body will think it is starving and save everything from the few meals it get's. Second when you eat take a bite from one thing then drink a sip of water to clear out that taste then go on to the next thing. example: If you are eating corn, meat and peas. take a bite of peas sip of water bite of corn sip of water bite of meat sip of water. That way you taste each item. If not your brain will think it is only all one item you are just chewing over and over. Like a bag of chips. You will also get full faster because your brain will think you are eating a lot. And, walk! Go for a nice nature walk or around your local park. Relax and take your music or just take someone to talk too. But, do that two or three times a week for about one hour or as long as you can adding more each time. You will see the weight fall off soon and you will feel better and not be hungry. If you get hungry eat something good for a snack. grapes, apple's what-ever. But, you will feel a lot better. You can even swing on the swings like a kid. And, that is nice. I hope this helps you.

Actually drinking water will definitely help you lose weight. It is one of the best things you can do. Also I would not work out everyday because your muscles need time to relax and rebuild because every time you workout your muscles tear and they need at least a day to heal. The best way to do it is do cardio on one day and then the next do muscle building and then the next cardio and so on. I think you get the picture you want to do different things each day. But cardio is the best fat burner. It all depends on what you can withstand.

Id say 30 minutes a day is enough exercise, more if you can handle it. In my opinion water is the best thing you can drink. Every cell in your body needs it. Watch what carbs you eat. Try cutting out potatoes, bread, and pasta. Or at least cutting down your portions of them.

Drink water so it feels like your full. Also exercise until fatigue occurs this will mean you exercised as much as your body can handle. Use that bike but also work other parts of your body running is a effective way of weight loss. Moreover you don't machines anyways because there is always crunches, push-ups, running outside or inside, and even walking.
