Which of the two edcation method is correct and should be employ in our school and colleges? How do we better our education system? Here's the background; In the banking method, for instance, the teachers are the depositors and the students are the depositaries, the teacher teaches and the students are just docile listeners, the teachers knows everything and the students know nothing.Whereas, the problem-posing method of education does not dichotomize the activity of the teacher-student: she is not "cognitive" at one point and "narative" at another. she is always 'cognitive', whether preparing a project or engaging in dialogue with the students. she does not regard cognizable objects as her private property, but as the object of reflection by herself and the students. In this way, the problem-posing educator constantly re-forms his/her reflections in the reflection of the students.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to quickly realize that students who only get their knowledge from books, with no applied skills, know relatively nothing about the subject they study if that subject calls for physical or logical activities beyond story telling. Even with story telling, class interaction is necessary for the student to absorb the content. So...I guess the problem-posing method works best. Besides, the banking concept is usually boring unless the teacher is an excellent lecturer - this only at the college level. There should be some lecturing in highschool to prepare students for college.

Thanks for your response. We arein the same boat. The thing I hate most about banking method of education is the nature of which tends to make the students a robot, a lesser human being with no creativity in himself. This method of education also can become very mechanical and at some point of time we may replace the teacher by a talking robot/machine. But what one needs to remember is that edacation is about a human teaching another human how he/she can become a more complete human being. So, it's more than just filling a child's mind with stories but being able to see and bring our that lovely person from within. It's I bet a meeting of two minds, the heart being the stage where these two mind meet.

So, bottom line, teaching, like anything else, is best done by those who are born to do it. Those are the teachers who are remembered 20 to 50 years later because they left an imprint in the mind of a child that unwittingly guided that child's footsteps on his or her path.
