Yesterday, i went ice-skating, i haven't skated before and i'm bad at keeping balance. As you can easily imagine, i fell over several times. I've no idea how to skate. At first i can only walk by grasping the fence acound the skating rink. After several rounds of walking, i can get rid of the fence and walk~ I'm determined that i can learn this, only a matter of time, so i practised again and agin, and of cource, tumbled and fell over. Time's limited, only 2 hours. So i left still couldn't skate. Never mind, at least now i can walk:) Anyone who knows how to skate, can you kindly teach me how to? Have you ever got a tough learning process? Please share

you are already learning the first lesson in skating, falling down and getting those scrathes and learning to stand and balance yourself. remember, when you started to learn how to walk when you were a child? it is the same thing , the pains of how to stride. the next thing is how to balance yourself while moving. upon standing up, bend your body a liitle forward, don't let your legs stiffen, bend it a little bit and start sliding one foot while the other foot pushes you (push sideways). falling down is not a sign of failure , it only means that you have learned and succeeded.

Thanks~~ Yeah, i know well that every fall over makes me nearer to the success. And my feet stiffen and every time i use one to push me ahead, i'll fall down. And i don't always put my body forward, anytime there's a danger, i lean backward, which is very easy to fall

Hi lynettebyc, The last time I went on the skates was when I was in scholl and I couldn't skate then just manage to skate round the rink nearest to the wall so I can grab it, many times I have fallen, but it was fun and I hope you will learn to skate and have fun, the main thing is having fun. Yeah, i really had fun yesterday although it still hurts when i'm sitting in front of the PC now. If i really want to learn, i'd better hurry up, cause when i'm getting older and older, i can't bear the fall any more, it will break my bones, god!

well before i started to ice-skate, i learned how to roller-blade first. it's almost similar since you have to balance yourself and use your momentum to move. if you really want to learn to ice-skate, try learning to roller-blade first. hopefully you'll learn to ice-skate asap!

Thanks tooincome, two of my friends skated for the first time but they managed to skate, i guess that's because they know how to use roller-blade.
