Camping or Lodging?

When you take a vacation, do you prefer to go camping or stay at a local lodging establishment? If you prefer camping, do you go tent camping, back packing, sleep under the stars, or do you take your home on wheels (aka trailer, camper, or motorhome)? If you're a camper, do you prefer primitive camping, NPS or NFS campgrounds in National Parks and Forests (in the USA), or do you prefer trailer park style campgrounds with full hookups, like KOA? If you prefer lodging, do you like B&B's, cabins, motels, or fancier hotels? For me, I still like camping and it's usually primitive camping. For a quick summer getaway, I like to load my pup tent, sleeping bag, mess kit, a change of clothes, and some simple food and water, onto my ATV and just take off into the mountains for a day or two. Since the mountains where I live are basically deserted except during hunting season, I can get out to where it's peaceful and my only "neighbors" are deer, elk, antelope, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc. Since I work at a large resort, getting away from people is most relaxing to me.

When my kids were younger we used to go camping in a tent and I used to love it. When I was a kid my parents had a camper and I also loved that, too. Now that I'm older, when my husband and I go away on vacation, we stay in a hotel or a motel. I'd like to stay in a cabin somewhere this summer though since I've never experienced that.

I know what you mean about getting older. It is getting hard to move in the morning after sleeping on the ground! *LOL* I guess it's one of those little drawbacks to passing the half-century mark, but, hey, we made it, didn't we? *BG*
