Women - Do You Have Facial Hair?

United States
January 24, 2009 9:10am CST
I know this is probably not a topic that most women want to discuss, but I know that I have facial hair. Yes, I get those mustache hairs and chin hairs also. I actually have so man on my chin that I have to shave my chin every day. I wish I knew a way that would get rid of them all for good. Do you have any facial hair? If so, how do you get rid of it? Do you shave, pluck, wax, or do something else to get rid of the hair?

I have some peach fuzzy on the side of my face. It is not too noticeable. I also have some on my upper lip, but not enough to bother with. If it gets any thicker though I would have too. I noticed last week that I had a few hairs growing out the end of my nose. I plucked those suckers.

Yep, sure do. My sister, who is a nurse, said the chin hairs are usually due to hormones. My lip hair is genetic. Laser removal is the only cure and it doesn't work for everyone. I had it done once and the hair takes awhile to grow back. I couldn't afford to go through the entire treatment. The one time I had it done was a Christmas present from my oldest daughter. My sister (the nurse) works at Skin Deep Laser in Kansas but I get no family discount.

I keep reading post after post saying the hair will grow back thicker and coarse if you shave it. This is simply NOT TRUE. You cannot change the structure of how hair grows by shaving it. You would have to affect the root itself to make any changes and logically if doing something to the hair itself had any effect then dying it should be permanent and it isn't.

I have a sister who is totally anal about her appearance. If she believed the hair would grow back differently she wouldn't shave it. The first thing they give you when you have laser hair treatment is a razor to shave the excess off because the treatment works better. If shaving makes it grow back heavier than logically so does waxing, plucking, etc. But evidently you are all convinced you'll look like some hairy lumberjack if you shave it off.

Hi there Irish, You are absolutely right that people have different opinions as to whether shaving hair will cause it to come back thinker or more coarse. While I understand your comment fully, in terms of the root of the hair not changing from shaving.. something does indeed change the look and feel of the hair... I personally do not claim to have any idea as to why or how this occurs, I just think that it does, and it seems that many other people have had the same experience, even though as you say, scientifically the root does not change. Happy Mylotting!

I suppose there is a perk about being an native American... we have no body hair. All of our hair is on our head (mine is really thick), But I've never shaved my legs, or anywhere else.. ever. have ya tried electrolysis? (dunno if I spelled it right) but a dermatologist can get rid of it permanently, I bet.

My ex had some native American in him and couldn't grow a beard if his life depended on it. I tend to be hairy and two of my kids take after me. My middle daughter has very thick hair but little hair elsewhere. She doesn't even have to pluck her eyebrows, although one time she did shave them off.

yes i do have facial hair. i do have these very fine thin mustache hairs. some of my guy friends has asked me to shave them off. but i think not. to shave it off, it'll get more coarse and thicker. And ANYWAY.. according to some fashion guru's (or so what famous artistes say), that females with some facial mustache hair is known to be sexy and hot. How true? I don't know.

They won't get coarse. My sister and I shave ours all the time. I used to bleach or wax. Shaving is much easier.

Yes! I get a dark mustache also. Thats all thank goodness, as thats bad enough. I cannot wax it, as it gives me an awful bright red rash. I used to shave my mustache off, but I bought one of those eletric "electrolysis" gadgets (em I think thats it) well it is a litle electric prong and it electricutes your hair and most of them do not come back. It really was a good investment long term, so ask for one as a present or look for one when you have some spare cash. I actually bought it for my teenage daughter a few Christmas ago, so I now use it and my hairs are fewer now. It does work well and I really recommend it.

Sounds like a long and tedious process. According to my sister hairs with no pigment aren't affected.

How exactly does that machine work? Do you have to do it on every single hair? I was looking online at the machines and was thinking about getting one, but I just wanted to know exactly how it works.

Sorry for this late reply. Yes unfortunately you do. You plug it in and it heats up a little and you get these little prongs and touch the hairs to they fall off well they disapear. It might take a while to do, but they are good, as I had one hair that grew every day, about half an inch. I done it first and I have not seen it since.

Haha, you women are hairy beasts! I knew a girl in high school that grew a thicker mustache than me. I hope someone develops a permanent facial hair remover for you hairy ladies. I wonder if there is some kind of fund I can donate to that will help yall out.

I have about three hairs that appear on my chin, and they are so hard to get rid of. I have tried Neet, Nair, and the sugaring stuff such as Nads. I then wait until I can feel them, and pull them out. It is getting that they are getting easier to get rid of. Luckily the hair is white so no one notices it, but I sure can feel them. I was thinking of getting that hair remover that looks like tiny tweezers, but the pain! Ouch!

I was perfectly fine untill the doctor put me on the pill for 4 months to make my period regular. Within 2 weeks I started growing hair on my chin. Not a big deal just some 10 or so and lucky they are very light so they are hard to see. I cut them (I dont shave, use creams or bleach) about 1 a month I would pluck only I cant stand pain.

this is funny but yes, i do have facial hair on my upper lip. It's barely noticeable since I have naturally tan skin. i think everybody has this anyway but is more obvious on some - especially those with very white skin (like my friend!) She has hers waxed every now and then. as for my chin, i dont have hair there but occasional bumps- which can be more annoying than a few strands of hair. haha!

Yes, unfortunately I too have facial hair that is annoying as hell. I never used to have any till about 2001 or so. Dont know why they suddenly appeared. I have some on my upper lip on the sides I have to get rid of when they get noticable (their blond) along with on my chin (quite a few little ones there but nothing like a beard, also on the sides that I absolutely hate) and on my neck there are some. Its strange that right in the center of my chin there is no hair, thankfully. I kind of shave it, but I dont use an actual shaver. Its a small plastic piece (I forget what its called) with a sharp razor thing on it that I just carefully use to 'brush' them off. It doesnt stop them from growing back, just gets rid of them temporarily. I was reading this post (thank you btw) in hopes of finding a good way to permanently get rid of them but havent tried any of the ways mentioned like waxing or lazer. I cant afford it, so Ill just keep doing what Ive been doing.

i also have facial hair!.. im using facial hair remover cream for it.. it will grow back as is on 3 to 4 days.. it's very tiring to put cream on your face everytime.. but i think that's the best i can do as of now.. laser is the best hair remover.. coz the hair will totally removed!.. it will never be back.. but it's quiet expensive.

Yeah. I've heard of that. My sister had some electrolosis. She said it was painful, didn't totally work, and was expensive. : (

I would definitely reccomend you to bleach it instead of shaving, if you can. I think that the more you shave it the faster it will grow back up.

Yes, I do have to shave every day. I was reading about a cream that is available now for women and it helps prevent regrowth of the hair, but you have to have a prescription in order to get it. I'm thinking about calling up my doctor and seeing if he thinks it would be good for me.

I can't believe I am actually going to answer this! But I have man eyebrows that if left to their own devices meet in the middle! Hairs that regularly need to be plucked on my chin. And a rather noticable moustache I tried everything but the one thing I would recommend is threading! http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-thread-eyebrows It looks painful but it really isn't. I can't cope with the pain of plucking large areas or waxing! But even I managed to cope with this!

I am very lucky that this sort of thing is not my daily problem... i have facial hair... but they are not that prominent... so there is no need for me to shave or pluck... or to really get rid of them... but then... i also have very thin eyebrowse... i think that comes with the very little facial hair thing... I heard that facial hair can be permanently removed through laser treatment... but i don't know anyone who really have tried it...

Yes this would be a topic that most women will not want to discuss. It truly is embaressing to say the least. I am in my 20's and my facial hair (lip, chin and sideburns) are truly troublesome for me. I have PCOS which is Poly Cystic Ovary syndrome. It's where I have more male hormones than female hormones. There has been many different things that I have tried, waxing, shaving, plucking, creams and bleaching. With the amount of hair that I have on my chin I truly am embaressed to have anyone see it as it really is quite visible. I have to shave everyday so that people don't see it. However I would like to try something else. They say laser is the only solution but even they can't gaurentee that it will remove all the hair. But I truly would like to try it and see if that would be best for me. It is quite a hassle having to shave everyday.

LOL Yes Unfortunately I do, my son commented the other day at the kitchen table (of all places) Mom you need to shave your beard! I said they're only hairs not a beard, he said geese yeah but you could braid them... LOL Oh yeah, I pluck them, when I can see them! The best thing to keep them away for a while is to have them waxed or wax them yourself, they don't start coming back for like a month, OMG don't shave them anymore it will just make them come in thicker.

I have not aware of this issue ,but I have heard many people are shave .In particular ,China's Hainan province ,Where I was at university when I saw that they shave with a thin rope. Then it must surely be painful, although they said they do not hurt.
