A few lucky people in the Indian Ocean will be treated to a rare event on Monday when an annular solar eclipse will transform the Sun into a dark disc with a blazing ring-shaped corona around its rim. do you like seeing these rare events? Do you make an effort to view them when they occur? My hubby does, and my daughter enjoys them too. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090123/ts_afp/spaceastronomyeclipseasiaafrica

That is an interesting story. The astrological events are interesting to watch if you are able to do so. The Aztecs had a wonderful method of tracking them very precisely. In previous years, watching the sun and stars was more important as they were methods of time-keeping. When to reap, when to sow, etc. Nowadays, with the light and pollution from the cities, it is hard to see as many stars in the heavens and I think fewer people take the time to look.

I love rare events like this. I love anything that has to do with the solar system as it is. I would really enjoy this also.

Cool! I don't normally pay much attention to things like that, but I am sure both my kids would think it was pretty cool.

I heard about the solar eclipse and I'm really sad that we won't see it here in the states. I managed somehow to find a wensite that says the next we get to see one won't be until 2017 here in NorthAmerica. I'm so bummed but so thrilled for the ones that get to see this one. I hope that we have some here on MyLot that will take pictures for us

Yeah I read something to that effect online through yahoo. I think it is neat too bad I will not be able to see it myself. Maybe there is somewhere online I could see it. Anyway yes it only happens once in a blue moon, lol no pun intended so more power to those that are able to see it. Nice discussion and good luck with it, thanks for sharing it as well. Happy mylotting too!
