Husbands Update

As most know my husband was hospitalized last Tuesday and up to date the doctors still don't know anything further than they did when he was admitted. An emergency abdominal Ultra Sound was arranged at the next city down so I drove him there and test results indicate the gall bladder is fine, no stones and the liver looks good. My husbands health has gotten worse each day, he walked in the hospital but as of this moment he is not even able to walk. Please continue to pray for us, that the doctors will find the trouble. Have you ever gone to the hospital real sick and the doctors couldn't find anything wrong? How frustrating. Thank You in advance.

I am sorry to hear your husband is in the hospital. I will say prayers for him. Sure hope it's nothing serious and he recovers soon. It's now 3 days after your discussion was posted. How is he doing today?

yes, it has been three days already. may the doctors find out the reason why he has become ill. it will only be the time then that they can effect medications that will cause a recovery. let us then offer some prayers that the doctors immediately find the cause of the illness, much as for his fast recovery.

Our whole medical system here in Canada is unbelievable. You wouldn't believe it. The doctor suggested sending my husband home yesterday till they could clearly see he couldn't stand or walk. They've taken blood tests but they never say anything and each morning it's a different doctor that comes in. So you ask what the test results says and they say they didn't get a chance to read them. My husband has been hospitalized since January 20 and although he was sick when he went in (Vomiting) he could at least walk, now the vomiting is gone but he can't stand much less walk. I don't know what we're going to do.

It doesn't really make any sense. Does he have a primary doctor that can call the hospital for test results and maybe order more tests? I feel so bad for you. He is in my prayers. Just hope they find out what's wrong, cure him and send him home. Am thinking about you.

Your system of medical care is so different than ours. You have just shown me the bad side. People in this country are having a hard time with medical services. They are so expensive and frequently insurance won't pay. And if you have no insurance you have to pay a lot of money up front. As for the way your husband has been treated it reminds me of the treatments military people get. My ex-mother in law had cancer and since her husband was retired military they always went to the local base for treatments. They, too, saw different doctors each time. How do you build any trust or relationship with a doctor if you never see the same one? Also I hope you keep after these guys to give you updates. Sometimes you have to get pushy cause they "don't have time, or even want to talk since they have not answers". Stay on them for information and also be sure to do your own research so you can ask good questions.

I hope hat you could demand one DOc. or find what DOvotr is doing whiuch. Tell them to read the chart before coming in to see him . Make sure you question each meds trhey are giving him too!. He might be allergic to some and this is why he isnit walking . Ya have to stay on them and make them tell you what they are doing. If you think to tell them to stop what ever meds they are giving him to see if this helps him walk. was only in for vomitting not cause he couldnt walk!

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your husband, Grandma! I was once sick like your husband, it just didn't progress so rapidly (but I was also much younger... in my early 20's). The hospital couldn't find out what was wrong with me, although I, too, had a low-grade fever that would go away with aspirin or Tylenol, but come right back. I lost so much weight over the next 2-3 months that I began to look like a corpse! I couldn't eat, I could barely walk before they finally found the problem. I had an infection in my intestines! All this time and they never treated me with antibiotics but, once they determined the cause, they immediately put me on antibiotics and I got well! I am hoping that this is the case with your husband, although it sounds like, if it IS an infection, that it is a very fast-spreading one! Do they have him on antibiotics as a precaution? Has anything shown up in his bloodwork? Please remember that you have your myLot family here for strength to help you hold yourself up during this upsetting time. Come here and lean on us as much as you need because this is not something you should be going through all by yourself! You need to keep up YOUR strength, too! Please keep us updated and let us know if there's anything more we can do to help. Blessings to you and your husband!

I would think that someone would sit down with you and at least go over what they've ruled out so far! Maybe they will if you ask. It sounds like that's what is needed... someone to at least take the time to let you know where they stand on your husband's treatment. Here in the States, he would have been sent home, whether he could walk or not! Our hospitals have been known to treat some people who are not mentally alert, put them in a cab and send them to another healthcare facility where they are just dropped off at the curb! I saw a video of someone that happened to. The poor woman, dressed only in slippers and a hospital gown, was wandering around in circles, outside, no knowing where she was or probably even who she was! My prayers are still with you and your husband that they find the cause and have a cure! What are they giving him? IV fluids? Electrolytes? Antibiotics? I HOPE they're doing all that, at least! I know that some illnesses or diseases can be quite a mystery because they are so very rare and it sounds like your husband may just have one of them. I'd love to help by doing some intensive research into your husband's symptoms. Sometimes, it takes us, so non-medically savvy, to come up with answers! First, though, I'll need to know exactly what are his symptoms and what the doctors have ruled out. I'm serious about this... if you'd like me to try, I'd be more than happy to. I feel so helpless in your husband's situation and really would love to try to help. Let me know if you want my help, okay?

You're such a good friend!!! Thank You so much. I know there is something wrong the doctor also said that today because he gets a fever and the Tylenol takes away the fever but it returns again and again.

You have to hold yourself together for you and your husband. Please make sure you are getting as much rest as you can. You really need it. Stress is extreamly hard on us and you have your share right now. Trust and have faith that your husband will be well in no time. Maybe is something simple like low on elecrolites. My Mom got deathly ill when hers were to low. You might ask the Dr's. It could be something simple while they are looking for the big stuff. My Mom is 85 and doing well. Blessings to you both!!!

doctors treat in any country in the hospital if they don't know what to do they send people home, because their focus is to treat of course I feel for you and how worried you are, I would be too, perhaps you can get a worker come in and help with him, I know that here in quebec you can get that, it limited to so many hours though because it is free but it might help and of course keep us posted, and if he gets worse take him right back to the hospital until they figure out what the heck is wrong with him.

Thanks so much. He's home now and back being able to walk. The doctor still doesn't know what went wrong but all his test results came back good. The doctor said there is a problem according to white blood cells and having a low grade fever nearly all the time but they just can't find what the problem is, so now he has to see a different doctor.

Will pray for your husband. I hope it is nothing wrong. I walked in to a medical clinic and they did find something wrong with me and the same with my husband. Things sort of catch us unawares. They might have to do more tests to find out what is wrong. Don't you just feel as if you are on an episode of House? It sounds like it. I mean all those tests and it frustrates when the doctors find nothing wrong and yet later on, they discover it and give you a scolding for not coming in sooner?

I hope everything works out well for your husband. I know it can really be frustrating, when the doctor's do not know what the problem is. My father went into the hospital two weeks ago, with chest pains. He had shoveled snow the day before and had a mild heart attack. That is the only symptom that made him go to the hospital. After the angioplasty was done, with successful results, he started having a hard time swallowing. They took him off of solid food and put him on IV. For almost two weeks he was not able to eat through his mouth. They seemed to be taking their time finding out what the swallowing problem was. Finally this pass Thursday they did a MIR and discovered he has a cyst on his esophagus. So now he has a feeding tube in his stomach, to built his strength up fo they can remove the cyst. In the interim, he has become so agitated and upset. I am so worried about him. I know you are really worried about your husband. I will pray for you and your husband, please pray for my father, and lets hope they both get better soon.

I'm sosorry to hear about your husbands condition. It is awful to not know what is wrong. My blessings and prayers are with you both. I have had a problem and the many times and tests I had they still didn't know what was wrong with me. I just got worse over the months. The tests all came back normal. They even had the gall to tell me that it was in my head and I needed to talk to a docotr about it, you know the kind I mean! Well, I left there thinking they had run all kinds of tests on me, I had been put through the mil, pain and some not so much pain (the testing). I thought they think it's in my head maybe it is. So I resolved myself to the fact and stopped going bad to the hospital. I tryed to carry on as normal and I got worse. I thought okay no matter what they say it's not in my head. I decided to find a doctor and not tell about all of the other testing unless they mention one I've had then I say I'v ehad it. Well she odered an upper gi, I had not had this one. I went back for that test ont he testing day. praying that they find something. I got a call to come back to the office, they wouldn't tell me the resul of the test. The docotr said there were a few things in the test. I won't go into them all now. I told her about before all of the months and testing and they found nothing. She said that when I told her what was going on with me I told her what was wrong. I was so grateful. She treated me for 3 months and it didn't help I had to go to an internist and he treated me. Needled to say I have to have a huge major operation. That helped me. I was told had it not been so long that the medicine would have helped me. At the hospitals they don't know it all, they think they do. You may need another opinion and then another to find the results you need. Best of wishes and luck to you.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear this. I wish they would be able to tell you something. You may need to request that an internist check him out. Many times when the other doctors don't know when it's a mystery to them and internist can find the problem. It doesn't matter what they say you have a right to ask for what you think you need and not all doctors know what many things are. They mostly deal with the "normal" things that people go through. Getting someone that searchrs for "everything" like an internist they will search the blood testing for things the other doctors don't even think of. I wish you and him the very best and will continue to pray for you both. Hang in there, something will come up.

You need some sort of advocate to metaphorically grab "the doctors" by the ears and give them a good shake, but I'm not sure exactly who you could contact. Maybe start with a letter to your MP or MLA with a cc to your local paper? Good luck.

Oh grandma, I am so sorry to hear about this, I really didn't know. I sure hope they find what is wrong, a week is a long time. I pray that they find out soon and that he gets well real quick. I remember when I had gall stones, it took several years before anyone knew what was wrong. I went to the emergency room 6 different times, at different hospitals before someone found out that I had gall stones. By that time the stones had gotten pretty big. I was having many attacks for several hours each time. I ended up having emergency surgery to have my gall bladder removed.
