sometimes i leave my computer on when i'm gone, but it all depends how long i'm gone for. for about an hour or so i'll leave it on but if i leave all day there is no way i'd leave it on that long

ya 1 hour is not that long but i have seen people who just leave the computer running if they are out with friends. They don't care if it damages your computer.

It doesn't hurt the computer to leave it on, this often helps due to it is when I do my scans and updates, like the registry optimizer which has a auto restart feature when it is completed. Actually powering the computer up causes changes in temperature as well as voltage spikes, both of which can damage the delicate circuitry. Even though the equipment is designed to expect and withstand these problems leaving the computer on reduces such wear caused by repeated on/off cycles. Being sure the computer and it's components are plugged into a surge protector and using an automatic "sleep mode" when there is no activity present, will help considerably in the consumption of electricity.

Ya i was also referring to the circutary and the temperature which might melt the delicate wiring system.

I usually leave my computer on when I am away or i will put it into sleep mode. I don't like to keep on turning on and off my computer every time I use it. Well, if I m away for like 2 days or 1 week, I will turn my computer off.

Hi, you can keep your computer turned on for one whole day and nothing will happen to it(i have tried this).Computers are manufactured such that they can be run for days without shutting em down. But fior that you have to make sure you have a cooling fan and the CPU is ventilated. What happens when a computer runs a process is that it gets heated up.But when its not running any processes it wil cool down automatically. So when you leav it on and go out, during that time the system will no overheat. It will go into a standby mode and less sytem resources will be used. i have turned on my system for downloading for a whiole day and i turn on my system before going to sleep daily for downloading.

If I am gone for hours then I prefer turning it off. Otherwise if I am going for a couple of minutes then its better to keep it in stand by mode. I am always afraid of power cuts, though it rarely happens.

No I am not so busy that I don't turn off my system, I normally leave my computers on as I have a money making program running on all of them. So if my computer is off when I sleep and at a normal day job, I am not making any money at all, where if I leave them on I am, true it might be only pennies a day, but then it only cost pennies a day to leave them on.

my main computer I put to sleep, though if I'm downloading something I keep it on. Or if I fall asleep, of course it keeps running. I can't stand it when I wake up and the thing has been connected to the internet for over eight hours doing nothing. No wonder MCI is charging me $56 a month ...

sometimes I leave my computer on when I am downloading a film, otherwise I always switch it off since I hate wasting electricity since here it is too expensive...

Well, I am not real busy all the time but I still always leave my computer on. It goes back to when I was married to a computer nut, he said it used less energy to keep the computer on, then it was to turn it off and back on again. Besides the last couple times I turned it off, it did not come back on. It crashed and I had to re-install everything! Luckily so far it has been doing well..

I really only leave it on when i know i'm going to be away for less than 2 hours. Any more than that and i'll shutdown my computer because my laptop tends to start overheating after about 3 hours of idleness. Really messed up i know.

Yes my friend, I am always downloading something or the other so I keep my computer on when I am away also. This is why I keep my computer on.

I'm usually pretty good about turning the computer off after I use it, but once in a while some program doesn't turn off properly and I don't notice until my dad tells me that I didn't shut it down properly.
