Your Life or $5000?

US Airways sent the 150 survivors of the recent Hudson plane crash $5000 and refunded ticket costs each..Although intended as an "Immediate needs" payment, some are saying it's not enough.. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2009-01-26-us-airways-river-crash_N.htm?csp=Travel The plane was reportedly brought down by a birdstrike, which presumably the Pilots and the airline had no control over..Shouldn't their travel insurance cover any losses of belongings? What do you think? They should be grateful to be alive,or get greedy?

What's interesting is that in all the pasenger interviews that were broadcast after the event, I din't hear one say they were going to sue the airline for anything. All I heard was, "they did a great job" "best landing I've ever had" "so greatful to be alive".... The event that took place was something that was uncontrollable, it was not caused by negligence or malpractice, and the fact that the pilot was able to land the plan and everyone lived was a miracle. There is a certain amount the airlines is liable for for lost luggage and what not, anything else these passagers got is a bonus. They got $5000 and their life.

Since it was caused by birds, it's presumably classed as an Act Of God and might not be covered. Still, I'd be glad to be alive. The money would be a nice bonus. But then people are greedy, especially when they think they can blame someone and get away with it.

An update on the story has the airline also giving the passengers their highest level of frequent flier card membership..and the discussions about further compensation goes on..

If I wasn't severely injured & only suffered a couple days delay 5k would have me dancing in the streets. Heck, I couldn't find anything I own worth 5k that I could fit in a suitcase to lose...

Since it was an act of God that cuased the incident, I'm not sure if an insruance claim would cover it. I would just be happy to be alive, even if I suffered a few minor injuries and the loss of my luggage. The money wouldn't even come to mind, being able to return to my family to love them would be all that mattered to me.

I would love to get $5000 anytime. I would be greatful that I still had my life and I would be greatful for the $5000.
