I think this was bad timing.

We like the school district our daughter is in. They do a wonderful job of keeping us informed about what is going on with her education, activities and such. We really have no complaint. But there is a 1st time for everything, right. Weather being bad we assumed we would get a call saying school was canceled. And we got the call. AT 11:00 pm. We were actually all asleep. A rare feat with a newborn. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of that tonight. Do you think this was a bit too late?

That does seem awfully late to be getting that call. My son's school calls either before 8 p.m. or not until 6 a.m. I hope you do not get woken up by a school closing again tonight.

I may shut off my phone. Then just get up and look at the website. Better than getting woken up.

They actually called you? Our schools doesn't do that we have to watch the news to know if our school district is called off or not. 11 o'clock is a bit late especially with a newborn as you stated. I wonder how many more people they had to call after you?

just give them benefit of doubt probably the decision came too late for them to call you up at a reasonable tme but atleast they informed you in the night not after you reached school to drop off your kid. They might have hoped weather may give in for them or may be the calling up of all parents took time. just let it be.

I think this is way to late to be calling. I would be very upset if the school called me that late and would complain to the principal.

Well, I suppose it would be more of a bother to get your kid ready for school and not have a bus show up.. or have the doors locked.. or whatever is appropriate for your situation. You need at least a little time, in some instances, to line up someone to watch the kids the next day. 11p might be late, but it's better than no warning at all.

My rule of thumb would be, except for close relatives (or in the case of someone you know very well), is don't phone after 10pm. (My mom would have said 9pm, but that could be a generational slip.) It's possible that they could have gotten the news late - it might take a while if you have to phone a whole class full of children's parents. I agree with you, though. That was definitely too late. Aren't schools supposed to say 'early to bed and early to rise...'?

When I was in school which was about 15 years ago (I can't believe I'm that old), they didn't call. They just put it on TV. How times do change!

Oh my gosh. that is late. Our school district has it televised on our local news channel. Sometimes they call early in the morning too. They usually have it reported early though.

Wow..that was so late! I never experienced that even when I was still studying! Anyway, hope they will not to that again since I know a lot of parents didn't like the action!

going to school - i don't like to go to school on cold winter days when it is extremely cold
Hello ersmommy. I think that it is too late for the school administrator to keep the parents informed at eleven p.m, when it is time for people to be in sound sleep. I hate to go to work in the school when the weather is extremely bad, like storm and heavy snow. Take care and stay warm, dear friend.

Wow, really? We don't get phone calls, they post school closings on all the radio stations and all the TV news stations, or I can look it up on the news websites, but they've never ever called! Our schools are closed today too.

That is too late for anyone to call your home unless it's a dire emergency! Our schools don't call for weather related problems. We are told to watch the television. All local stations start at night listening the closings. AND, if you don't see your child's school at night, check the next morning and it will be there, whether it is closed all day or late in opening.

Yes,I am with you,I mean the gesture is good and we should appreciate what the school did for our children, but the time is not proper.11:00,most people has fall asleep at that time and it would disturb them from having a good dream.and moreover they called for something is not that urgent and I think they can call you the nex day.

I also agree that is way to late for the school to be calling. a few weeks ago our school district closed down due to the extreme cold, and they called at 5:30 in the morning, I didnt answer the first one of course so they called back and never left a message... but we must have been one of the first ones to get called. and if my phone rings at 5:30 in the morning, and I dont recognize the number I am not going to answer it... that was crazy. oh and yes you finally got the baby to sleep, I would have been furious.

Wow, your school calls you? None of the schools in our town do phone calls. It is up to us to get up and watch the news or call the school or local police to find out. It is quite a pain in the rumpus. I may prefer the phone call, however, I do think 11 is very late for anyone to be calling you.

My question would be what type of emergency happened that the school would have to call so late to imform the parents that school is closed. Usually parents know the school closing schedule in the beginning of the year when they get the school year calendar unless its inclimate weather and still the parents find that out in the morning. Hopefully it will never happen so late again, I know how it is when you get a newborn asleep and for he/she to be woke up by an unplanned on noise.
