Unless a stimulus check is being mailed directly to me....it will not effect me. The last round of bail outs did not help the economy. I do not espect this round too either. We are throwing good money after bad away and creating mor national debt.

I completely agree. We need sustained spending if we want real growth.

This is very true and from what I have heard, there are to stimulus "checks" included in this plan. Until they figure out a way to get money to the working class so spending will occur, there will be no effect on the economy.

you know when I did my taxes last week I had to claim my stimulus check from Bush on it. It was tax dollars that got taxed again. Talk about a crock.

I don't think it will affect me directly but indirectly of course because this is not a solution to our problem. We are trying to fill up a bucket with water that has holes in it and you can't do that. You can't borrow money to get out of debt. That is insane.

I totally agree! You can't borrow yourself out of debt - no matter who you are! You also can't depend on "trickle-down" economics to bring our economy out of its current state of failure. You can't give a bunch of money to big business and expect it to eventually get to the working class!

I don't think it will help us. I don't see myself getting anything out of it directly or in directly. The last one did not help us. It helped big wigs but not anyone else. The groceries are so expensive, and I don't see that changing. I eat out less...and I will probably eat out even less. I make most everything from scratch. I have very little time as a result.

I have always cooked from scratch so that is no different for me - after a while and you get used to it, you'll find that it doesn't take much more time. Having all the basics on hand is the key!

As a full-time student, the stimulus package probably won't have a huge impact on me financially. Hopefully it will help to reverse the economy. I am a big believer in the efficiency of markets, and I am afraid that the package won't work quick enough to make it worth while. I think the biggest effect the package will have on me is adding to the burden my generation will have when we become the working class. The national debt has been raised by trillians lately. It is reaching numbers that just aren't manageable (not that they were manageable before). I'm afraid the huge amount of debt will eventually lead to the downfall of the US. It seems ironic that Congress is fighting a credit crisis by taking on debt that it cannot pay back in the near future. I hope I am wrong, but the massive amounts of spending lately scare me. A liberal government doesn't give me much hope that we will reverse the trend. I can only hope I am wrong.

That is a scary thought. Even if they didn't have the majority, they would just add in some tax cuts to get it passed. So I don't know that the majority will really matter. The government seems determined to spend our way out of the recession. I just can't see why.

I find it interesting that while the Democratic party is so eager to lay the blame for the current state of our economy on Bush (even though they were the ones who voted to approve the bailouts) that they are also the ones who are unconditionally in favor of this package. Obama has made it clear that he has enough Democratic votes in Congress to override any of the Republican concerns over his package, and I am afraid this is what his entire term in office will be - he will do what he wants to do regardless of what anyone else thinks/needs/wants (so much for bi-partisanism!)

I can't see it doing a thing for me or anyone I know. Even if they were going to send out stimulus checks (and I know they aren't) the amount they usually send is not enough to do anything. Prices on goods is high, especially food. Better to see those prices come down so people can actually afford to buy food without having to sell their first born or take out a mortgage for a sack of groceries.

This is very true! By the time a working couple pays the sitter and buys groceries, there's nothing left.

I heard that there will be no direct stimulus checks mailed out but rather tax credits for employees. Since I'm not longer working that won't help me. The extension of unemployment benefits won't help me because my unemployment benefits don't come from the state or the feds. I'll have to learn more about any benefits to small business...aside from loans which my husband doesn't want to get...but it doesn't look like it will have any direct effect on me at all.

At one time they said there would be money for small businesses who wanted to expand to create jobs but Pelosi evidently didn't like that, so don't know if that is still in there or not. There's a lot of "pork" in this legislation, the same as many others - including some related to family planning and birth control.

That's hard to say. I havent really thought about what the stimulus check would do for me. I dont really know exactly what is going to be offered. I guess I will have to see what sorts of things that are going to be in the plan so I will wait and see what sorts of things are going to happen. I hope for the best.

I don't believe it included stimulus "checks" to be mailed to all of us. There are supposed to be some minor tax cuts - $500 for individuals and $1,000 for working couples but it is to be a cut in withholding from earnings throughout the year and not in a $ amount paid directly to us or as a lump sum deduction on our taxes.
