My daughter loves Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, James and the Giant Peach. She wants to see the movie Coraline. It opens in wide release Feb. 6. It looks mega intense to me. I think we may pass--look at the dvd when she is a bit older, but I don't know. Have you seen the previews? What do you think? My daughter is 5 1/2. She had been watching Nightmare Before Christmas since she was almost 2.

Well it is about a little girl which can maybe kinda scare her more then she realizes. I think it best to preview the whole movie first before letting her watch it. So you can know if it has anything that you know might upset her. maybe a day she is in school..

I'm waiting to see what the reviewers have to say about the movie.

It might be a little dark for a five year old. Jenny, who is now sixteen, read the book and if the movie is anything like the book it is going to be graphic and disturbing to a five year old. The previews even make it look really creepy.

I have not seen previews for it at all yet. I think your idea to wait until it comes out on DVD is a good one. It would be a shame to waste all that money going to the theater and have her be too scared to stay and watch it.

I want to see Coraline. I don't think it looks anymore intense than Nightmare Before Christmas, so if your daughter is ok with that she probably would be ok with Coraline...BUT it might be too intense in a theater for her. I know a lot of movies seem more intense when you're in a theater where it's really loud and such a huge screen. I think it'd probably be best to wait until you can get the DVD. Then you can even watch it before she does and judge for yourself if it'd be too much for her.

My daughter is into scary movies but shes 13. I think it may be to much for a child of 5 1/2. My daughter has been talking about seeing Coraline and I think it may be to much for her to watch it. She says its supposed to be really scary.
