Do you think it is safe to have a Pitbull in the home with a child?

Is it safe to have a Pitbull as a pet if you have young children? If no, why?

Definately, if you raise the dog to be a family member it will be the best investment you could make. Pit bulls are very protective of thier family and belonging. My pit loved my kids and as far as she was concerned the only reason God made kids was for her. Pits can be aggressive if they are raised to be aggressive.

EXACTLY!! my 1 year old daughter and our 2 year old and 2 month old pit bulls get along great! the dogs know that she is #1 over them! our 2 year old pit is VERY protective over our daughter and the puppy...when anyone strange comes around she always kind of puts herself between them and our daughter. they are inside dogs as well and our 2 year pit old gets up throughout the night and walks around our entire house "Patrolling it" before going back to bed...she is the most loving dog i have ever had!

I don't think so either, but I do know that any dog could do it. My daughter was bit by a germanshepeard mix and a saint benaeard just nicked her right between the eyes. My grandmothe had a pitbull and he never bothered anyone.

NO I don't think so!!!! Because I think that pitbulls are dangerous and known to be the deadlest dogs. There are so many horror stories of pitt Bulls that they were considered to be banned. I'm not sure if that went through.

This is why ignorance is so prevelant in this society. I've met many pitbulls and none of them were violent or dangerous because THEIR OWNERS RAISED THEM PROPERLY. My bestfriends have two pitbulls and they're the sweetest things. They are no different than any other dogs.

Personally I believe that a Pitbull is no different from any other dog, and a dog will be what it's owner will let it be. Breeds like the Pitbull have gained a bad reputation in recent years because of the reportd attacks they have made, but overall they will attack no more than any other dog, how many times do you hear of the nice friendly labrador attacking a child, hardly ever, but that doestn't mean it doesn't happen. I was brought up with dogs, all of them big breeds like the Alsation or German Shepard as some people call it, now these have a reputation as well, but not once in 17 years did she attack anyone and the reson for that is she was properly trained and properly treated. Any animal has the ablity to 'turn' on humans. So at the end of the day you have to decide whether or not you want to take that risk.

I have a dog that is part pit and she is very loving and careful around my 3 year old. It depends on how the dog is rasied and the tempment of the parents (dog parents). Any dog can turn. We rasied Dobies while my oldest son was very little. People would ask me "arin't you worried about him in there with the dogs?" and my answer would always be "I am more worried for you than I am my child."

Yes, its safe. a dog is only mean if you teach it to be mean. I grew up with several pitbulls and they protected me. My kids will grow up with them too, they will not be afraid of dogs because of it.
