Well not everything is in his hand, though it is really hard to say I do not think that he is anything but a man, an intelligent hard working one who has worked hard to improve his own life, and has some clear ideas as to what directions he wanted for his life, his family and for the country. That said, I do not expect him to wave a magic wand and then suddenly the financial situations in the US are going to be fixed. I look at it this way, when I do things that incur debt, I do not suddenly have that debt paid just because I want it paid, I have to take the steps, and yes others are involved in those steps, such as finding a job that pays enough to clear the debts, etc. SO he is in a job that is going to bring with it some heavy burdens, and yes the financial situation of the country is one of those burdens, but with out doing the job ourselves we as people can not know all that is involved. And the US is a system of goverment, it is not a dictatorship even if GW tried to make it one, for a while, I do think he will do his best to improve things for no other reason than he is now in the biggest fishbowl situation of anyone's life. The world is watching to see what he does or doesn't do. But since we have a system of goverment and there are many others involved in the whole process needed for the change that has to be considered will Congress be a help or hindrence, can one man make the decisions needed that will change the economy well he may have ideas but he doesn't have the power to control the actions of the entire population. And that will factor in. Since he has the extra burden of being the first man who didn't fit the wasp image he is going to have to work hard to distinguish himself, just as the first time those of various ethnic groups had to work harder and do better than anyone else just to be considered acceptable for him it is going to be the same. That said, I agree with my grandfather's belief. "an election is when you get to voite for who you want to steal from you" I do think that power corrupts, that most if not all polititians are corrupt, selfserving, and out for all they can get, and that they don't really care what or who they go through to get it. Polititians can not be trusted, and it is likely people may even express views that are negative about the man in office, but it is likely that there are good reasons behind actions that seem to be terrible. I also think that the press is full of lies, and half truths, that we really DON"T know what goes on we only know what it is we are told but because we are told doesn't make it true. So there may be times when he will do a great deal, and yet seem as if he is doing nothing, because the press twist things or because whe he has done can't be published. There is likely to be times when it seems like he is doing a great deal when in fact he is not, and again the spin the press puts on things will factor into that. As for what will I expect of President Obama? I suppose what I do expect is that he will in fact work towards his goals, and we do not know what all of his goals are. I expect he is much like all the others his using smear campaign tactics early on proved that, I expect he will do a great deal to get things done as did men like FDR and President Truman, I expect he will even accomplish something during the next 4 years because he will want to be re-elected, what will he do with the four after that I do not know. I also expect that during his time in the white house he will do a great deal to ensure his own future is one of power and wealth and if there are times when that is done at the expense of the american people then he will still do it because rarely are those in office for the people as much as they are for their own interests. I expect he is an intelligent man and so will use his intelligence to improve the economy and the country, but his idea of improve and my own may be very different. Only time will tell
