Dissapointed - No car for my son.

I just got told by my son this afternoon, that he doesn't have a car to race in the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby on Friday. I asked him whether he was given a set (a block of wood, wheels and nails) and he said that he did two months ago. He kept asking his Dad and his Dad kept saying they would make one soon. I remember seeing an email about one of the Dens holding several workshops for this and I can't believe he didn't take advantage of it and take my son to make his car. Now that his Dad is overseas, what the hell am I suppose to do? I don't have the tools nor the know-how to make one. The race is in 6 days AAAARGH Men just make me ... (you fill in the blanks LOL)

oh that is so sad, some people just don't think, I hope somehow maybe someone else will come forward mybe and help him, but i guess you don't have much time there, some people just don't think of anything but their own needs...very sad...

I'll ask but still, this is a project that he should of done with his son. I'm wondering whether anyone knows if they sell ready made ones and all we have to do is paint it. I don't think we have enough time to make one from scratch.

I hope so too. It really sounds complicated and I wish I had known earlier so I could of pushed my hubby to make it with him. Not having the tools makes it difficult to do. I'll try though. Thanks Gabs!

That's a shame and a huge disappointment for your son I'm thinking. Especially as the boy scout den went to the trouble to organise it so well. Can you contact the den leader and explain your predicamnent? I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help you.

Can one of his friends dads come and help you make it or help him make it?

I can ask. I just feel embarrassed asking because I'm sure all of them have theirs done already and here we are with nothing. We were given ample time to do it. I just let him and his Dad deal with his boy scout stuff and didn't really follow up with anything. I should of though.

I haven't thought about the Scouts Pinewood Derby since my brother was a Scout. I am sorry his dad dropped the ball. You may find some help here: http://www.boyscouttrail.com/library/pinewood-derby.asp I hope this helps, and he gets a car together in time.

Oh my gosh, sounds complicated just reading the tips. I have a slab of wood that I have to get cut and then weights have to be added and then the wheels and axels ... they have to be a certain weight and sanded down and so forth... man why do they have to make them so complicated?!? I don't even own an saw or know of anyone that does LOL Thanks for the link ersmommy... I'm just having a panic attack here, I'll soon calm down and figure something out, hopefully.
