For those living in Minnesota

United States

Hey all! I had received an email from a friend of mine saying that the economy is really bad in Minnesota. My boyfriend and I were talking about moving to Minnesota. (That's where I am originally from) Where we live in South Dakota, in our town (specifically) there are many people that are laid off, including my boyfriend. He is a welder by trade. I still have my job at Wal Mart and can transfer anywhere. Is it true that the job market is virtually non existent there? Would appreciate any feedback from you all.

Minnesota isn't doing too great, but we're doing as poorly as some states. A lot of people ARE getting laid off, the housing market isn't amazing, and I'm not sure about the welding industry - although my mom's boyfriend recently got laid off from a "metal machinery" company (is that the same thing? I'm not sure). I think we're stuck in the middle. I don't think it's any better than in South Dakota. I've heard that states like Michigan have it the worst, though.

It is about the same everywhere. it really depends on the type of job you have and if you are looking for a job what you are willing to do. California is in the news all the time for being in really bad shape right now. Illinois will be hit hard because of the CAT company laying off 20 thousand plus. Here locally they have laid off 2000 workers and we aren't bigger than 100,000 people. However, there are still jobs available and it really depends on what a person is willing and qualified to do.

sdmoonchild Iused to live in South Dakota where are you at? I thought maybe the economy would be better there, here in Ca it is'the worst in the nation no jobs, loads of people out of work, and prices going up instead of down. I once lived In Newell south dakota about thirty miles from Rapid 'City 'S.D.
