When the gas prices went up food prices did too.The food companies blamed it on gas prices because they had to buy gas to deliver the products.Well, gas prices went down, but the food prices are still going up.Even President Obama cannot understand why. Why do you think?

yes, gas has gone up here, $1.95 again. i went to ky. first of the week & it was ten cents cheaper a gallon over there so i filled up. i use very little gas because i don't go much but every little bit of savings helps.

I don't see why since I'm from Asia. But weeks ago when i was shopping at Walmart, a shopping assistant told me that the price for pork and other meat product would decrease in 2009 due to the economic storm. If it is so, at least it's a good thing for me.

I don't understand thaT either..Maybe the stores just used the gas prices as a way to go up on the price of food...It was just a convinent way to do it,and the gas prices went up just in time for them to use it..If that were really the case the food prices would go down now, but they haven't...Possibly they lied, the public has always been lied to anyway.....

Actually around here some of the prices are coming down...and they are having good sales. But the price of gas did effect the price of delivery....so they had to raise the prices just to adjust their profits...without profit they can't maintain their stores.

I believe it is for the same reason as most of the other stuff going on with the economy now, it is pure and simple greed.. I can't understand why now of all time, everyone with any access to any money isn't satisfied with a good profit or a good salary or a good bonus, they want more and more and more.. They don't just want millions anymore, if they can get it they want billions and they don't care how they get it or who they get it from..

It's the same over here; when the prices of food and other essentials went up, they blamed it on the price of oil and gas. Till today, the other prices still remain the same. All this while we have noticed that, once the price of food and essentials is increased, it will never be reduced!

Personally there is no one who is in real control over the price of food, etc. so since these places might have been hurting when Gas prices were getting out of control, they continue to raise their prices to make more of a profit, and no one can stop them as well. I would Love to see their be a Freeze on the amount they can charge on Food items, and Gas etc. especially since the economy is in such an economic slide with people loosing jobs, etc. but not sure if it will ever come. But seriously when your Food dollars continue to be less and less as the prices continue to rise it gets rediculous indeed.

I do think it has to do with the stock that was left. When the price of gas went up, then when they had to buy from the food companies, they had to buy at the new inflated price. So now they still have some on hand, so they have to get rid of it, and they do need to make some profit. However once that stock had run out, they should have lowered their prices, but somehow it takes much longer to lower the prices then it does to raise them and in the case of fresh produce, I can see no reason why they did not fall immediately. Canned goods I can understand, but carrots, cabbages, berries, fruits, etc. they get shipped from the farm.

probably greed. in my area, once they've gotten away with raising something higher, they don't lower it.the only time i've seen them lower something is when they have a new competitor in the neighborhood.that's how walmart killed our other stores on the island.

Because they can.... period. They can charge anything they want for food as we all have to have it. Supply and demand. Yeah, the prices went up last summer cause of gas, and most still paid, and since we did what we had to do to get food, and paid the higher prices... they figure, "they paid that then, why bother lowering now that gas is lower?" But the thing is... no one has ever said the reason for WHY the gas skyrocketed last summer and then literally crashed down to what they were before, sometimes even lower than before... literally over night... and no one has said why. AS far as Obama not understanding...I don't see he understand much since he is intent on releasing all the Gitmo Bay terrorists and bringing them all to America saying we will be safer if they are right here in our country living in our backyards than we will be if they are down there away from us.

I dont really know what is happening with the food prices but I agree with you that they continue to go up. It is really disturbing. I try to buy generic as much as possible or use coupons so that I dont have to pay such exorbitant prices for food. I really hate it. It seems like they will never go down.

Yea, I noticed this as well. What a joke. All sellable services used the rising gas prices as an excuse to jack up their prices, and now they have just left them there. When they raised their prices, I was like ok, I don't like it but I understand. Now it's just a ripoff and there's not a whole lot we can do about it, except shop for the lowest prices. These businesse have to keep in competition with each other so as consumers if we shop wisely I would think eventually things will come down jus due to that factor. At least that's what I hope.
