Hello MyLot people,

February 1, 2009 2:21pm CST
I am writing this for those of you who do not spell right! Look I am not trying to be mean but I spend a lot of time into looking up words so that others can read my writing easier. I am a very bad speller but I still work very hard to make what I say understandable to others. Could you please use a dictionary or spell checker or something. And, I understand that for some people English is a second language, but this is for every one even those who are English and just don't check what they have read after they wrote it! I am not saying it has to be perfect! But, most people can spell, "cup" and small words like that. Just please, look over what you right before you send it! Thank you so very much! ** Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life **

I appreciate your post. You're right. And it is greatly appreciated by everyone when people proofread their posts. Sometimes even if I proofread I still may miss something, but not too often. It is so much easier on everyone if people double check what they type.

While I do agre that proofing is important in some cases, I think it is OK to spell a wrod (!) wrong or two every now and then as long as your point gets across!

In honesty, as long as ppl can understand what I'm saying...that's all that matters. If someones typing or spelling bother me that much then I remove them and don't answer their posts. Since I was an English tutor throughout high school you'd think I'd never make mistakes but honestly, that was ages ago and now I tend to work more on getting across what I want to say and less about making sure each word is spelled perfectly. I'd suggest you cut a little slack and just work on improving your spelling if that's what you want to do. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

I think on here that people are more into responding and it takes a lot of time as you say to proofread etc. Some people that can spell are just not great typists. It doesn't bother me as long as I can figure what they are saying and I usually can. breathe deep....there are so many worse things to get worked up over. You should just relax and enjoy yourself here.

I use to get annoyed by people poor grammer but you must realize that this is a world forum and some people don't speak the "King English" very well because it's not their native tongue "hex" i have a hard time as well spelling and speaking it myself so i just learn to live with it that some of us will never take the time to check their grammer...

Why would you think it is tacky to proof read what you write? If you want someone to understand what you are saying would you not do your best to get your point across? I am not saying that people need to speak Proper English or the Queens English or anything like that. I am saying that I have read many discussions that just simple mistakes could have been fixed if they would have just proof read their work. One lady is from the US and Born in the US and her main language is English. But, I can only guess that she does not proof read. Either that or she has never went to school or does not have a dictionary or some disability or just does not care or something. But, her writing was worse then a third grader. I am just saying that if you are on a site that involves writing and reading at least try to make it easier for others. It does not have to be perfect! ** Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life **

they may be doing the best they can, i don't think it's your place to be critical of people who makes mistake. if u can't read what they write, delete it,

Ok, I guess I should have read this post before commenting on your last discussion. I can see your point more clearly now. I do think we have a deterioration in the use of the English language, even by native speakers. Yes, it would help if people spent more time and attention on how they say things and proofreading their work before posting. I think that some people think that it is only what they are saying and not how they are saying it, but they are wrong. When you make a typo (and we are all human), it detracts from what you are saying. People get fixated on the mistake instead of the message. Furthermore, you have just recorded your conversation permanently on the web in this manner. Is this how you'd like to be represented? I don't think most people would like to have their ideas reflected by bad grammar and spelling mistakes. Another thing that I think shortchanges readers is when people post messages in text speak (for example, how r u). No one wants to read that sort of discussion! You make some valid points, although people will not like you being critical. However, I think you make a good point about language and correct usage. We should all be striving to convey our words in the best way possible.
