Do you get disappointed when you have a ZERO response rate at MYLOT?

I have been staring at my discussions for a while now, there is one that has a ZERO response. I started to ask myself if I was the only person who's interested in the topic... He he he! I'm sure someone out there is itching to write and discuss it too. Don't worry my fellow mylotters, I'm sure that this happens, so am not disappointed. Ok... ok! Maybe just at first... LOL. When this happens to you, do you get disappointed?

Well, overall I don't think that I have a (0) with any of my discussions, but I know one of them I started just the other day even only has 3 responses back to it which was shocking as well, so I can understand what you are experiencing. But for the most part it all has to do with timing, and such as well. Since you are still Newer to this site, it takes time. Build up more friends and interact with others and Good things will happen from there.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The thing about myLot, if you are a newbie, you can't escape! People would recognize you from a mile!!! The numbers don't lie! LOL!

Yes, adding friends and adding to their discussions helps you with yours. I noticed that right off. And be patient. And I think, when it's your discussion and you answer people's response you get paid (credit anyway) but I could be wrong.

If I honestly thought it was a good topic and well done, then yeah I might feel a bit pained by people not responding. But my first post was a dud because I wasn't sure of how to post, and other posts I noticed were done a lot by new folks like me... only I didn't really know it until after I posted it.

I agree! Maybe the topic was too specific perhaps? Or was it too serious or deep? He he he! That was the warning I got from one of my friends here in myLot. Actually, I saw a discussion about answering the same discussions and most or majority (if I remember it correctly) don't mind answering similar topics. Thanks for your thoughts!

Nah! i'm used to it by now, I have several zeros... It wouldn't do for everyone to be interested in the same things would it?

myLot now has 160, 216 people. Am sure that a lot of them are interested in the same things that interest me. If not, they could disagree. he he he. I know, I can't please everyone. That's ok. Thanks for joining in... I should explore myLot more. Have a good evening (rather, good early morning) in UK Wizzywig!

I don't really care if I get no responses to be honest. If they paid you for them then maybe I would care. I say my piece and if anyone wants to talk about it that's great and if not that is great too.

I'm so tempted to say that I'm just a newbie that's why I need to hone my skills in attracting people to join in my discussions, but, I guess you're right. As long as I get good pay (uhm, $0.01 per response? just kidding), maybe that's enough. Yet, am just so eager to see another person's opinion about the subject! :(

Of course I do especially if it's something that really needs people's opinion. I think since some discussions are being put at the bottom when a lot of new discussions are being started on the same interest. I had 2 discussions with 0 responses and before it bothered me a lot but now I'm OK with it.

Maybe there are too many discussions, that we can't expect the one's we wrote could be seen. do you think we need more exposure? He he he!

Yes, I do get disappointed especially if it's an interesting topic to me. But I'm adjusting. I know mylotters are here not to really discuss serious topics, because if they wanted to, they should attend a class...lol..they just come here to relax, meet new friends and perhaps earn a few cents. Primarily I come here to relax...so don't worry, you'll hit the magic question soon. Just keep posting. Good luck doc..lol..

Well I don't start many discussions due to other committments, so most of my time is spent responding to other discussions. Often they are those which are started by my friends, so I would be a litle bit disappointed if none of them had the courtesy to respond to my discussion. If I started a lot of discussions though then I would not be terribly worried if one or two had no responses at all. The thing is that there are so many new discussions being started all the time here on myLot and if there is not a response fairly quickly, it does get buried under the avalanche ofother discussions. Of course it might not stay buried if one of your friends gets an email notification and responds from that. Another factor is the different time zones members are in as that can affect when a discussion is seen and read. For example, when you started this particular discussion it was 1.00 pm Wednesday my time here in Australia but anywhere betwen 8.00 pm - 10.0 pm in the US. Also although there are a high number of members here on myLot, those who are active at any one time is probably less than 25$ of the total members. Good luck to you zorlone and I hope that in future you have no discussions with ZERO responses.

Generally I think that we all learn from others, whether that is here on myLot or in life. The thing is that we need to weigh up the information and decide whether or not it is true and also whether it will work for us. One of the things that I do from time to time is check back on old discussions and if they have no responses, then I make one if I can. It brings the discussion back to the top and maybe it will attract a few more responses. What you do is go to you list of friends. Then choose which ones you want the notifications turned on for so that when they start a discussion, you get an email advising you of that. It depends on how many friends you have of course as to whether you turn them all on or not. I have a couple of friends who start heaps of discussioins every day, so I do not turn theirs on because it would flood my inbox. Instead I check out the discussions to see what I want to respond to.

Another good point! Again, I didn't know that! Thanks for the additional info oldboy! Maybe there is hope for me after all! I hope you don't mind if I quote you once in a while when I discuss stuff with other people online. :) Seeing that this discussion is still going strong made me feel very good! My discussion with a zero response is buried and I might as well say my piece. LOL!

Good day mate! I have been learning a lot from all the "mylotters" old and new! This discussion has been very helpful. Made me think of how I would maximize the use of mylot. Frankly, I have barely scratched the tip of this iceberg, am lookoing forward to learn more! The point about notifying your friends is something I haven't done yet. I have been waiting for responses and was actually at the mercy whether people would see my topic in the "discussions from my interest" and "discussions my friends started." Now that I know more would probably make me a wiser mylotter and use all the means necessary to increase my responses. :) Cheers!

To be very frank , Yes I used to get disappointed initially! But then I have noticed that memebers normally avoid responding to a discussion if it is a serious type! The discussions which requires lot of statistics or need a lot of research work also don't get attracted by the members. So I think it is the seriousness of the topic which we are p[osting on this site which determines the particip[ation! I alraedy posted an discusion about this ,as why the members are not interested in participating in serious type of discussions! Fortunately I managed to get few responses to this discussion! LOL! Second factor is , the time when we are posting the discussion for the members. If the time when there is lot of rush the discussion initiated by us may get buried deep down with the subsequent discussions initated if there is lot of rush at the time of posting! such discussions they come to surface only if they are answered other wise they go further deep to get lost for ever! Third factor is time of the week! During the week nds people are in relaxing mood and they want to have some good time so they are likely to go out for outing and at this time the attendance on this site is bit low! Posting assuch time may lead toattracting less number of members! Any way , today I am not really bothered if I am not getting response to one discussion, as I am normallybeen compensated with over whelming response to another topic of discussion posted by me! Well thanks for the topic, it was indeed a interesting one and I liked paticipating in it!

Thanks for the lengthy discussion, I enjoyed reading it! I will admit, I still have a lot to learn to be in the top ranks of myLot. This would be no problem for me (I hope) cause am a good student (according to myself LOL!). So, thanks again for sharing! One of the best responses so far.

Of course I do. Everyone wants to be the best on mylot. I would be totally flattered if my discussions show up on the top discussions page. Anyway, even if my discussions don't draw in response, I don't let it get to me. I still continue posting. I mean, if you don';t try you won't be successful right?

I agree! Besides, myLot is giving us the opportunity to express ourselves and to interact with other people. Most of the responses I got are from people who are probably having coffee in the morning while reading their messages. Then, there are those who make topics out the the headlines form the news. And those who are very inquisitive about anything, from smelling their feet and smelling the shampoo bottles before they buy them. Isn't this great for us and to a lot of us who are frustrated writers (like myself) to be able to talk about stuff we like. Cheers to myLot!

It never happened to me. Also maybe because I am more a responder than a topic starter. I don´t know I just like to respond to topic and started maybe two or 3. Didn´t have lots of responses but I am also just active here for about a month so I can´t ask that much. Some people here are active for months and already made friends, so they follow each other´s discussions and answer them and keep a kind of conversation. About me... I am a starter.

Hi deborahkat, am new here in myLot. Registered three months ago. Forgot about it. Then I have been an active participant for under a week now. It is very interesting to know that there are a lot of good and trustworthy people here. Most of the time, their opinions are well thought of and you get inspiration from their responses. I got at least two discussions started form reading and responding to other people's discussions. I have also been sending PM to those who have been in myLot for a while so they were my big brother/sister in this site. Thanks for the comment!

It is a little bit disapointing, sure. But then, not everyone who is interested in your topic is on line when you post it, andafter a short while, it gets to the bottom of the recent discussions, and later on another page. Lately, I find easier to answer to others questions. There are so many out there, that I have no problem picking up what interest me. I try always to give a good answer, because if the person thought about a question, means that this is really on his/her mind, and they need an opinion. Not sure that mine is the best, but I'll sure give it a try.

I started to learn that topics depend on the time of the day, the day of the week and the mood people are in. So, your topics would be fine tuned to these factors. Read oldboy's response on this discussion. I got inspired from there. Best of all, nothing to worry! Cheers!

yup, I had similar experience with you. But it doesn't matter, I won't care so much if there is many responses to my topic. I just wanna to write sth here and leave a memory, maybe someday in the future, the words will bring me back... Happy mylotter!

No, I don't get disappointed. I don't even track the discussions I posted because they are already too many. I just wait for the respondents' emails. If they come, it's good but if they don't, I just think that no one is in the mood to answer on my topics Sometimes, I get answers on my topics which were posted months ago.

May be your discussion is highly scholar related, or your wording sounds weird to ordinary site members. Or it takes wide knowledge to give a meaningful response. There are so many reasons that people just evade away to some other topics they feel easy to reply. In such cases, I might rephrase it or split it into several parts, or give some guiding paragraphs, so that memories are recalled, or thoughts sparkled to join in your discussion.
