Did anyone go to Denny's yesterday for the free Grand Slam Breakfast?

Just curious to see if any of you here on myLot went to Denny's for their free Grand Slam breakfast yesterday? I went and was surprised at how fast they were going through people. They were swamped, but only took about 15 minutes to seat me. Then about 20 minutes to get the food out to me. I was in and out of there in about 50 minutes. That was pretty surprising. But the biggest surprise were how many people were leaving without paying for their drinks. You would think if you give someone a free meal, they could at least afford to buy their drinks. But a number of people were leaving. I thought that was pretty sad. What about you? Do you have a Denny's near you? If so, did you go? Did you go and see the crowd and turn around and leave?

I did go to Denny's for the free breakfast last week. It was snowing, so that may have deterred some people from going. The line wasn't too bad, and after waiting for about ten minutes, a host came out and asked if there were a party of four waiting, we were a party of three, so we were seated right away. They were also giving out rain checks for people who could not stay to eat, I thought that was very nice of them. We did order drinks, and also left a tip.

I am glad to hear that I wasn't the only one here on myLot that was able to enjoy the free breakfast. I didn't see anyone leave at the location that I visited here. Maybe if I would have went in the first time I went by when the line was so long that they would have done that for me. But the wait wasn't too long and the food was good, best of all it was free. Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a great day myLotting!

I never heard of this deal, but I don't have a Denny's near me. I would have to pay $7 to go to a Denny's. That's hardly the most frugal thing.

Nope, it wouldn't be worth it to pay more than the meal actually costs itself. That is unless you just wanted someone to cook and clean for you. Then again, you could go to any restaurant and get that, so why go to Denny's and stand in line for the same price. :) Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a great day!

I was so glad that it just looked a lot busier than it actually was. I have waited longer than that to get a seat at Bob Evans on a regular basis. So I was greatly relieved. Then again, it wasn't as surprising as you might think, because big corporations like this are usually prepared when they plan something as big as this promotional wise. Thanks for your response and have a good day!

I didn't go, I knew they'd be swamped and I rarely eat breakfast, but I was tempted. My niece and her husband and kids went. They said there was a line that was taking people over an hour to get in so the staff came out and gave everyone coupons that they could come back anytime in the next week to get their free breakfast. So they took the coupons. That I thought was really cool.

Wow, KatieDidit, that was pretty cool. So your local Denny's must have really been swamped. I thought the one here handled it pretty well. Like I said the line was extremely long, but they had me seated within 15 minutes. People in front of me, I don't think it even took them that long. I guess it just depended on what time you showed up also. Thanks for all of your responses, they are always appreciated. Have a beautiful day!

I guess there were a lot of people who weren't even aware of the event. As a matter of fact, I didn't talk to anyone else who knew anything about it when I brought up the subject. I was very surprised. I guess their commercial during the Super Bowl wasn't really worth the money that they probably paid for it. Glad to see your response here in this discussion. Hope you have a wonderful day!

I would have loved to have gone, but unfortunately the nearest one to me is an hour and a half away. Just wasn't worth it. I'm really not surprised people didn't pay for their drinks. You give someone an inch, they want a mile. I would have glady paid for my drink, if I could get a free meal. I wish there was one closer!

Well, it was pretty nice to have a big breakfast like that and not have to cook it or clean up the mess. In my opinion, it was well worth the tip and the overpriced hot tea. LOL Thanks for your response in this discussion. And by the Lisae1988, it appears you are kind of new here on myLot. Let me take this opportunity to offer you a great big WELCOME.

There was a line all around the Denny's in my area. Nobody in my family wanted to spend hours to wait in line, as everyone has a job. There was no way I was taking time off.

I thought it would be a horrible wait also. It was to my surprise when I was seated within 15 minutes. They were taking 8 and 10 people back to be seated at a time. And they had 3 people host/hostessing the whole thing. I was really amazed at how prepared they were. You are really lucky that everyone in your family still is employed. Most of America at least has one person that has been laid off at this point. The area I just moved from has two cities that are 1 and 2 in the nation in unemployment. Times are really tough for a number of people right now. Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a beautiful day!

No, we do not have a Denny's near us but I heard on the radio that the turnout was huge. People are hungry.

The radio was right. There were so many people there it was unbelievable. I first went about 9:20 and there was a traffic jam outside of the parking lot. So I decided to go back around 11:00. I managed to get the last parking spot, and even though there were people parked in the grass around the lot, I still got in pretty quick. They were definitely prepared for the crowd of people they had to feed. Thanks for your response in this discussion, and have a good day!

We don't have a Dennys in our town:( I would have gone. I can't believe that they let people walk out without paying for their drinks! Did they just let them walk out or did they say something to them?

No, they actually didn't even know the people were gone until they went to look for empty tables and found the bill just setting there with no people. I just can't believe that people would be so inconsiderate. You would think that they would appreciate the free meal and the way Denny's was doing this promotion to try and help with the economy. But I guess some people have no pride. Oh well. Thanks for your response in this discussion and have a great day!
