Would you sit in a garden all alone...........

Suppose it is a bright and sunny day with very pleasant weather. Imagine you are all alone and you go to a beautiful garden or park. There are no persons around and no one is likely to come. You are supposed to sit on a comfortable bench in the garden/park. You neither have any newspapers/books/magazines with you nor do you have any of your electronic gadgets such as mobile phone, FM set or I-pod etc. with you. Will you be able to sit on the bench for at least one hour all alone and if you will be able to do so, how will you pass on your time? This question came to my mind, when one day I was in a somewhat similar situation, I realized that it was not possible for me to sit all alone in a Park, through the surroundings were conducive and pleasant. I just cannot remain idle sitting at a place and doing nothing, it looks to me that I am wasting my precious time. Please share your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

Ahhhhh, the peace and quite. Yes, I could sit in that situation. I could do without all the electronics, newspapers, books. I would just while away the hour thinking, listening to the sounds of nature. I would watch the birds, or any other animals that came along. I do think the one thing that would cross my mind would be......wished I had brought my camera! lol

Yes, if you have your camera with you, then you can pass your time easily...........!!!Many thanks for dropping in showing the courage to sit all alone.........

We live by the river and some times i just go and find a quiet spot and sit and watch all the wonders of nature. I can sit for hours just watching. There are insects galore. There are birds around so i feel i am not doing nothing. i am learning about the world of nature and it is a good thing.

i think you will not really feel alone when you have nature all around you, the river, the grass, the insects, the clouds when you look up, the birds, and it is really wonderful when you are into this kind of thing, i have done it lots of times, but sometimes when i am by myself i bring a sketchbook or a guitar :)

Living in a city where we are always in a hurry and spend hours travelling in crowds this one of our peace and quite would always be welcome. I think I would just spend that hour admiring nature and looking around and all the plants and flowers in the garden. Take the time to thank nature for all the beauty around which we hardly get to see here. May be I would then get a chance to think about some new discussions to start here on mylot. Even if my hands and feet were idle my brains would be working overtime. So I would not consider it a waste of my precious time!

I understand that you have the patience and will to sit all alone and it is really great on your part that you can connect with nature and can spend your time pondering over new ideas for discussions and thinking about some good new poems. Just give it a try some day and tell me that how long could you site all alone in a park..........LOL! You are a creative person, I know and you can utilise your time well sitting in the park. Many thanks for dropping in and showing the courage to sit all alone in a garden.

A nice quite beach - A couple of hours sitting at the beach
I have often spent a couple of hours on the beach justing watching the sunset and the people around. This is the picture of the beach that I very often go to. I dont think it will be difficult for me to spend an hour in the garden. Only problem is I will have to search for a quiet garden here!!!

Ah it does sound fun though. I won't mind if my boyffriend was there with me. But let's say I got no exams to prepare or something, most probably I can sit there but one hour is long. I never tried that but I don't mind. All the noises in downtown and the stress from work and everything is energy consuming. If I could go to that park, i would do it but most probably after 15 min, I would be starting about something else like problems I have or think about past memories. When thinking about those, things will pass away really quickly.

Hi dpk! Yes I can sit in a garden or park alone for an hour and have done it many times! I just love to sit and look at scenery! It makes me feel so good just sitting there on a nice warm sunny day! I don't need anything to keep me busy! I have the trees and whatever form of animal life there is around me! I can look up at the clouds and see the trees and before I know it the time is flying by! I am not usually one that can sit still, but if there is a nice park or garden that is all the entertainment that I need!

If i am sitting alone in a park or garden , i will never feel disturbed. Rather i will watch people around me. Observation is a very informative hobby. You can learn about people without having any contact with them. Ofcourse, i may get bored after sometime. If so, i will move around the garden to explore new things. Still if it's boring, i will leave the place....

When i have wanted to spend a few moments bymyself and reflect on something, i have not heistated to go sit in the nearby park by myself for a couple of hours. While thinking about things i needed to i would also appreciate the beauty of nature and at the same time watch the small children play around and have a great time.

Yes, I can do that, and I do, quite often. I don't regard it as idly wasting my time because I feel we all need our solitude from time to time. I can just sit and watch the birds and wildlife, and the clouds forming shapes in the sky as they drift by, for hours. I will contemplate my life and what the next step is, just by watching what goes on around me, in nature. In fact, I love to be at one with nature, and often sit up on the hills for a while, or by one of the local mill ponds, just gazing into the water and watching nature's progress and habits. So, you see... I don't feel it's a waste of time... it's simply enjoying the beaty of the wonderful gift of nature we've been given. Brightest Blessings.

You're welcome my friend. Yes, I understand that you will get various perspectives on this, but I was just airing mine. What's enjoyable for one person, isn't for another, and I think different ages make for different areas of enjoyment. Some people just love company and to buzz around doing all manner of things. I do that often, but there are the odd times when I just like to sit and recollect. :)

Hello deepak, nice discussion. I think it all depends on how much pressure you have on your mind. I would actually very much like to enjoy this kind of solitude, where I am sitting alone on a bench, feeling the warmness of morning sun rays and coolness of soft breezes scented with fragrance of flowers and would love to see trees and leaves swing from here to there from time to time and chanting sweet voices of some hidden birds........, I would love to get engrossed into my own thoughts and smile to myself thinking about some happy moments of my life.....or humming some old song just looking at the blue sky.....wow.....it has been years since I have done something like this....., but on the other hand, most of the time I am under pressure of responsibilities and due to this, forget about the garden, I am restless at every place that I exist....I wish people were content and happy and could enjoy the real peace and calm of silent nature.

Indeed, sitting in a garden will depend how much pressure of our work, we have in our hands. We are always so engrossed in our day to day lives that we keep 'thinking' and if we some day we sit idle (either in a park or somewhere else), many 'thoughts' or say 'pending work' keep haunting us ceaselessly. I can understand that it would be a great experience to connect with a nature, provided we get such an opportunity. Bad sadly it does not take shape in reality. However, after going through so many response, I feel that I should give it a serious try one fine day. Many thanks for enriching the post with your wonderful and suplerlative thoughts.

Well, in this really busy life that we have, it is actually a luxury to be able to sit and do nothing! If I were in your situation, I would just relax and stare at the sky. I love to look at cloud formations. How they play on your imagination to see shapes and objects in them. If there are people playing in the grass, I will observe them. Or admire the flowers and the landscaping that has been done to the park. There is just so many things you can do to just take a breather away from life that we know it. It would be so relaxing if I could do that! An hour! That would be one relaxing hour I would thoroughly enjoy!

Interesting poser you have here. Sometimes we have time to kill, perhaps waiting for someone, and a park is a convenient place to while away the time. Whether that scenario holds for me, or it is the one you described, I know that for me I will not just sit on a park bench staring blankly into space for an hour doing nothing. That will be boring for me and a waste of my time. If I really have such an occasion to spend in a quiet park, I will use that time to reflect on my life, issues I have to tackle that I need to find answers to, challenges I've faced, experiences good and bad I can recall, or just use those quiet moments to plan for the days ahead what I need to do. We can't be busy running around every moment of our waking hours. Sometimes, we just need to sit quietly and reflect to get ideas and solutions, and such times in a park can just be those 'productive' times.

I understand that you are a very practical and honest person and you can sit in park to introspect yourself. Yes, I agree to this. When I sit idle for sometime, I just have a look at my past my life. Good and bad moments that I have experienced. Some moments of love that I have spent. And think about the future.......................

Sarita, you're a practical person too. Sitting quietly gives one a chance to concentrate. The time spent may end up to be more productive when ideas and solutions come to our head. Time for good reflection without disturbances is what is needed sometimes. Also I forgot to add that sitting quietly in a park noticing the trees and plants, the birds chirping, the cool breeze, the insects, etc. lets us appreciate God's beautiful creations around us. Most of us are so busy we hardly have time to appreciate such things. Doing this can be therapeutic for some people.

Hi Deepak, Don’t desperate me (by offering one free hour...sigh). If I get one hour to sit idle without any disturbance I will be the happiest person in the world (lol). I know it is not possible for me in the present condition. I think now I don’t want to explain more. There must be lots of birds in park and am happy to observe them. I don’t need a person for company or a newspaper/magazine and even a mobile phone. Now tell me can you provide one free hour for me I would like to congratulate you for getting tremendous response in such a short period. I saw your discussion today only and surprised to see the number of responses. Keep on the good work. Best of luck dear friend.

Many thanks for your wishes. I am wondering too, how come I got so many responses, in such a short span of time. I think, my discussion was included in the 'Daily Mylot Digest'. Interestingly, majority of the respondents say that they would love to sit in a garden for an hour. Your reply appears practical and honest to me, but I understand that you have a strong determination and will to sit all alone in a park/garden for one hour or may be more than that. I agree with you that while sitting, you can enjoy beauty of the nature and enjoy bird watching, if it is in my hand, I'll definitely help you 'spare' you one hour, meanwhile, when you are away to the garden, I'll look after your work.....LOL! Did you ever try this? It looks good idea to me.........but I may not be practically able to implement the same, because I do not have enought patience........to sit for an hour or so.........I am very impatient..........LOL! Many thanks for dropping in and sharing.

wow..Dpk.......you have received so many responses in such a short time.....Congratulations.... Well Dpk in my case if the weather is good ,I wouldnt mind sitting all alone in a park bench for an hour...I can sit and enjoy my surroundings and nature, listen to the sound of birds, and I can even sit peacefully and day dream.I dont think doing all this is a waste of time,Dpk.Infact this is the problem with the modern world, everybody is always busy doing something, that they do not realise how important it is for the body and the mind to relax once in a while and to enjoy the beauty of nature. It will infact de-stress you and make you feel at peace with yourself and the world. So Dpk if you ever get such a wonderful opportunity, please do utilise it and you will realise its never a waste of time......

Hi deepak! Oh, I tried doing that several times especially when I was in another country. The parks were so beautiful and I always go to the park to savor the air and the beautiful surrounding. I am always so psyched to just sit and watch the people and the trees and whatever will catch my attention. But after a few minutes, I always start getting restless..I just can't sit still. I have to walk..I told myself, I will just look for another bench, then sit again and relax. But I simply can't. I started scratching my phone card and will always call home. lol..i just realized over and over again that I don't think I can just sit still for an hour. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

Hi! Dear! I think you have spoken your true feeilings. You can be in a garden or a beautiful park to enjoy the beauty and nature but to my mind also, after 15-20 mintues, one starts feeling restless (same is the case with me). If you walk in the garden, you will get busy, but sitting idle and only watching nature, cannot go for a longer duration........., this is what I feel. Thanks for enriching the post and sharing your feelings. Have a great day! Take Care! Lots of Love! Deepak

Hello deepak! I have tried it once too. My hometown is near the seashore so everytime I went home there, I sometimes go to the sea and sit at the sand. I can go there for one hour because sometimes, I want to relax. I want to do it everyday because I could have a time to think of my husband and all the good times that we have when we're still together here. It can also help me relieve stress everytime I do it.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, It all depends upon one's attitude. Think of many inventors, who must have been all alone in gadren lying down like Sir Isac Newton, and wanted to go into deep thinking, why at all that Apple was dropped on his chest. Probably, he wanted that no one should disturb him and he could make the new door opened to the world. NJo body will go to garden alone. Going itself warranted a situation, where one wanted to remain alone and think something alone, without anyone's disturbance. I think I will have my quality time reviewed with my past time to think, where I went wrong. may God bless you and have great time.
