Remember when Gift Cards used to be so popular?

I used to love getting a gift card, especially to one of my favorite shopping stores, like Walmart (only because it has a huge variety under one roof.) and other places like Target or who am I kidding, if its' a Gift Card for me. I don't turn it down. I have babysitters that allow me to pay them in gift cards, verses cash. This works out great as, I am apart of a site where you can earn points and once you have enough points you can request cash or gift cards, whenever you choose. Well my baby sitters, asked for a gift card from Starbucks, and it just so happens that Starbucks is one of the vendors on this site I'm apart of that gives you gift cards in exchange for you points. So needless to say, I was extremely excited. I don't have to come out of pocket for the gift cards, as I'll earn enough points to gain it by the time its time for them to baby sit and have the card ready for them. But I wouldn't want to outright buy a gift card these days unless it was for Walmart, as so many businesses are going out of business. If you're interested in know more about the site I'm apart of, then check out the orange banner (its the second one from the top). So what's your favorite Gift Card, and where do you like to shop? Has any of your favorite stores gone out of business?

I used to like gift cards, but no longer. I've just heard too many horror stories about fine print and technicalities in addition to, as you pointed out, the fact that companies sell gift cards and then go out of business before people can use them. I've come to feel that just giving cash makes the most sense. Everyone loves that, and, so far, you can still spend it anywhere. However, I have heard that cash is going out of style. Go figure!

I like ordering Walmart gift cards from sites that I earn on because it helps with groceries, or paying for prescriptions. My favorite place to get a gift card to is Borders. Books, music, DVDs, calendars, magazines, journals, there is so much to choose from.
