http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29109007/ "POTTSBORO, Texas - North Texas authorities seized 22 dogs found crammed inside a station wagon with their owner. The owner locked the car doors and refused to come out when a constable tried to serve her a warrant for the seizure of the dogs early Monday, said SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies. Two puppies and 20 dogs were taken to a shelter until a judge decides who gets custody, the SPCA said. A hearing on the custody of the animals is set for Feb. 16 in Denison. The dogs were in the car along with a pot of water, blankets and waste. "The car was soaked with urine and covered in feces. The ammonia level in the vehicle was 23 parts per million even after the doors had been opened for several minutes. As a frame of reference, humans start experiencing health issues at 12 parts per million," Courtney Stevens, SPCA of Texas rescue and investigations supervisor, said in a news release. The owner does not face charges, Grayson County constable Michael Putman said. She was not coherent and the SPCA said it has contacted Adult Protective Services about the woman. Pottsboro is about 70 miles north of Dallas." WTF!! the owner isnt facing any charges?! i know they said she was not coherent but that could have been because of breathing all that ammonia and not BEFORE she decided to do this!! it didnt say her age so i dont know if the owner was senile etc but i would think that they should evaluate her first and see if she was sane at the time of deciding to do this THEN decide if they should press charges.. is there any justice any more for animals?!?! seems like every animal abuse case i have ran across lately the owner gets off or gets a slap on the wrist!

I am just as upset as you are after reading this. This is the first I have heard about this story and it is so mind bottling. This seems so crazy and I'm just like why hasn't she been arrested. I mean at least they should have sent a physiologist to check her out. I think, just from reading your post, that this lady HAS to have some kind of mental problems. I just hope that all the dogs and puppies are okay and hope that their exposure to the ammonia didn't cause any internal injuries and anything.

the poor animals, that is awful, maybe this woman is not sane, it doesn't sound like she has her right mine about her, who would put dogs in a car like that and who would live in a car like that, sounds to me, like she didn't have a home, and lived in her car, but of course I am only guessing.

That is awful! I hope she did not get to keep them either. It does sound like she had some mental issues for sure. No dog (much less that many dogs need to be confined to a small area like that) I adopted a pup that had only been kept in his cage the first 6 weeks of his life and he didnt even know how to walk anywhere, just would turn around and lay down. Also someone must have beaten him badly, and though he is now 5 he still ducks at times when you go to pet him. People who don't treat them right sure don't need to have them!!

Yea I'm wondering about that too but maybe (and this is the ONLY logical explaination really IMO) she is severely mentally unstable...what else could it be ya know other than old age and senility like you mentioned..
