How Many Credit Cards do you have?

I saw a lil commercial tonight for debt consolidation and they were saying the average American has 8 credit cards! Egads 8!?!?!? We're in debt up to our eyeballs with what we have. I can't imagine having 8 or more. Though a co-worker of dh's that we went out with from time to time probably has more than that 8, when she paid for her bill my mouth about dropped as to how many she was choosing from! How many do you have?

Credit Card - Amex
I have 5 credit cards todate. I have applied to two of them but for the rest, I just got it to get additional discounts from department stores. It was free anyways so why not get one. I only use American Express lately because it earns airmiles which I believe will be useful for me in the future.

perks are always helpful in deciding which card to carry and use. I know of a store or two that do give additional discounts ontop of sales if you carry thier cards and that's nice. But like others have said it's even nicer if you can pay it off.

i don't have any & don't want any. i think all they are good for is to get people in debt. if u can't pay for something out of your pocket & checking account then u need to do without till u can afford it. people live above their means & then they get in trouble.

Sad to say that is most people I know including myself. I wish more places had lay-a-way programs so that one could purchase those large items. I utilized that quite a bit when Wal-mart had it. However if I wanted to get a plasma tv, I can't afford to put that on lay-a-way *LOL* 3 month's just wouldn't be enough to pay it off. So that's still on our wish list amongst other things.

Hi 3Snuggle, it’s really awesome to learn that there is someone who owns 8 credit cards. It’s really difficult for me to manage 8 cards at the same time. The cards would make my pocket or purse to look bulky lol. I’m afraid that I would purchase more than what I could pay if using too many cards. For me it’s just nice to have 2 credit cards. I will pay for certain bills like electricity, landline telephone, broadcast service, and network service via the two cards. I won’t pay for goods purchased if interest is charged. It’s not worth to pay for the 2 to 3 % of extra charge during this recession. I would like to do my regular monthly shopping after I have just settled the card balance for the first few days, so that I could enjoy paying the bill after about a month later. Sometime if one card couldn’t function I would then replace with the other card. Happy posting and have a nice day.

Perks and a low interest rate certainly are nice incentives to get people to use their cards more often. However since I posted this dicsucssion the rates have jumped substantially hence the consumer doesn't want to use a card right now.

That's the best way to do it if you can! I wish I had that fortune at the moment but alas it's easier go than come with money when you are on one income & a SAHM.
