Octuplets Fertility Doctor Should Have to Pay

Recent news is that three of the first six children are handicapped, the mother has been doing little if anything to care for them with the grandmother doing all the work and the mother is receiving welfare which she doesn't consider welfare. Now apparently the same fertility doctor has participated in her having eight more babies and by unorthodox methods. The hospital wants the state to pay the medical bills for the eight new babies. Well the fertility doctor who in effect took advantage of this unstable woman to try his unorthodox methods should have to pay the hospital bills and should have to pay child support since he in effect is like a father in this situation. He is a Beverly Hills doctor, so he probably can afford it.

I am not exactly sure all that is going on with this woman as I haven't read up on the publicity. I have seen snippets from the news, but other then that I am not sure. I think that if this woman is gaming the system in any way it immoral. I'm not saying she knew the condition of three of the children before, but the fact she knows now makes me thinks she could be trying to game the system, and that the dr. is either in on it or she's using him. The dr. could have known that three of them would come out handicapped.

I think she has some mental disorder about wanting more and more kids but then she is not willing or equiped to handle and raise them with her mother doing almost everything. Based on the ages of the first six, the mother and the doctor must have known that three were handicupped. It is becoming obvious that the mother is not mentally able to make decisions about having more kids and that the doctor should not have gone along with it. He is as much to blame, if not more, as the mother.

Well I'll be honest in saying that your comment on my response was a little confusing, I need to read more into this woman and her publicity before I can truly comment back.

I just read an article that stated the father of the children wanted to marry the mother, that he was in love with her. If she refused to marry him, I am not sure why.

I keep reading the news updates on Comcast news as they flash up daily and the entire thing makes my stomach turn. She can afford to go to a doctor in Beverly Hills and then gets welfare??? I mean, there are people who get denied daily foodstamps and welfare who really need it, and this woman goes and purposely has more children? She apparently didn't want to even marry the father. (The last news update I read through AP wire). I agree, there is something not quite mentally stable about a woman who just had 6 children to suddenly want 8 more. And I think the doctor should be held in suit of very poor practice of medicine. I thought that with such things they screened the person's mental health.

NOt a thing wrong with her mentally. She just knows how to play the system. She gets FREE medical care for everything so far! She don't have to pay a dime! How cool is that - free babies(in her thinking) We tax payers are going to have to pay the bill. What is not mentioned is that she was on Workman's Comp for quite a few years due to a work related injury - big settlement on WC and life time medical... just about the time she gives birth! You get 2/3 your gross earnings on WC and she worked for the state when she got supposedly injured. Said a fight with a mental patient gave her such back pain she was in terrible pain all the time and couldn't work... but totally able to carry 8 babies!!!! She says she was not on welfare.. no probably SHE wasn't but all the kids were! You can't be on welfare and Workman's Comp at the same time. But since her 6 kids were not on WC - they were probably on welfare. ffod stamps, WIC's and other state/govt funded programs to help children. She already hired a Nanny for the 6 she had (although the grand mother said she had them) but the Nanny service just GAVE her one year of free 24 hour nanny service so the "contributions" are starting to roll in ...just as she knew they would! The children are the ones going to have to pay for all this. Well, them and us taxpayers! Kaiser is already asking the state to pay the bills! And if not, all she has to do is file BK.

Yes, three of her first six are handicapped. It is probably too early to tell much about what the health will eventaully be for the eight new ones.

Well I agree with you, it is not a normal reaction in wanting children after 6 already, and the doctor may helped this woman to cure the six not bringing 8 more.

Firstly I think this woman is an unfit mother and the fact that she has grandma doing all the works just strengthens my opinion. I think that she should be made to have her tubes tied and I think your right the fertility doctor should be the one to pay for this. Personally I can't even believe that they would go to this extent. I am sick about this, there is no way that these children will get the care that they need and I am ashamed to know that there are actually people out there like this. She should be ashamed of herself and as far as I am concerned, she should not be allowed to collect any money from the state.

I definately agree with you in that the dr. should have to foot the bill n this one.... he knew she was getting some sort of gov't assistance and still did the procedures. The dr. should have to foot this bill

i haven't heard about this story yet... but i think based on what i read from your post, the fertility doctor shouldn't make the woman having eight more babies after she already have six... especially after the first three of them are handicapped... i can say that the doctor is a bit selfish in doing that... take care and have a nice day...

This is the craziest thing I've heard for a long time. She couldn't afford the first six, so why would anyone allow her to have ANY more, much less 8. Especially when she plans to let the state pay for them. California is already broke, and this is just what it needs. The hospital bills alone will be astronomical. I do believe that the doctor should be held responsible for part of the bills. I also believe that the children need to be taken from her by the state and placed into homes where they'll be loved and cared for. Obviously she can't meet the needs of that many little ones. Child care laws in Iowa say that you have to have 1 caregiver for each 4 babies under the age of 2. Therefore, someone must have determined that 4 is enough for anyone. I've worked with babies enough to know that 4 can be way too many because of the amount of care they take. If this woman had unlimited resources and could afford to hire the help she needs to take care of the babies, then maybe. However, it's going to be like the children are being raised in some kind of a group home, and that's bound to have a psychological effect. In addition, some of them will probably have disabilities just because of the multiple birth, and since the mother is obviously a bit mentally deficient, her children could well have mental disabilities. What's wrong with our society that allows this to happen? At least this time people aren't playing up how wonderful the situation is like they did with other multiple births. If God had intended for a woman to have this many children at one time, He would allow it to happen naturally instead of only with the use of fertility measures.

The problem with this story is that all this is now coming out too late, the babies are here now and the main thing for everyone to consider is helping the family to cope with them all. The situation should have been looked into well before it was allowed to get this far. How the mother thinks she will cope with them all is beyond me her reasoning for having them is that she is making up for the love she felt she lacked through being an only child, sorry but that is ridiculous I was an only child, I also spent the majority of it alone due to my parents work but I did not feel the need to go out and have 14 children. I just think that the whole situation is very sad!

Oh yes. I am also wondering about the father of all the kids. I understand that sperm Donner's are not responsible for the kids they father. This makes sense. A man would not donate his sperm if he thought he would have to support the child later and Mann women would never mothers. In this case the father of these kids know her and still kept giving her his sperm. Why is he not being made to pay? She is on food stamps. Her disability has run out. She is living in a three room house that can't fit her six kids. He must have know this. Why is he not being looked at? Where is she getting the money for all this? Sherry on the View had this done and said it cost Thirty thousand dollars for one visit. So where is the money coming from? The Doctor had to know this woman is a mental case. What woman in her right mind want to be a Queen Bee?

I agree with you. It seems the fertility Dr. was looking at his own bottom line, just raking in the money. She should have been screened for mental ilness after the 4th procedure. What kind of a person would do 6 fertility treatments on the same person anyway?

The last story I heard on this was the wonams mother (octuplets grandmother) was speaking out against her daughter. She claims that she had spoken with the Dr. and asked him to not do it because she already had the 6 and he did it anyway. This story just keps getting more and more facts involved. I agree with the on that said that Dr. should be liable for the bill not the taxpayers! Looks as though he'll be needing his money for legal fees on this one.

I saw this on the tv today or yesterday. I think the woman is pretty unbalanced to want to have all these babies, when she isn't taking care of the ones she has. I feel sorry for the grandmother having to do all the work. The other six children were from a firtility clinic as well? I was not clear on that. The program I saw said the same Fertility Dr refused to do it this time so she went somewhere else. They also said that it would run over a million for the delivery and hospitalization of the babies. I'm not sure what can be done now. My question is how did a woman on welfare pay for a fertility specialist? This is not cheap and I would bet that medical would not pay for it. I suppose medical is covering some of the million plus care for the babies. Some of them are going to have problems that will mean they will need extra care. How is this mother going to do that in the best of situations. I would think the story getting out like that perhaps someone will step up and help her. I also think this person is a prime candidate for steralization. What if she continues this who is going to take care of those babies? It doesn't seem like this woman has the ability. So should the babies be taken from her and placed in homes with people that would love to have a baby and can't? Again I am very sorry for that poor lady that is the grandmother.

All 14 are by artificial insemination and the last I heard it was the same doctor and he has been using some unorthodox procedures. I sounds to me like he has been taking advantage of this nutcase woman to try his different procedures to enhance his practice and make more money. He should have to pay all the bills.

Thats completely nuts if you ask me. If it was the same Dr. then he should lose his practice and have to pay for all these expenses. The Grandma was on the news again this am but I was busy and wasn't able to stop and watch it. I think she is trying to get help, either financially or help with the babies. I can't remember the mothers name. I would imagine she wasn't able to do much when she had the 8 babies inside her. I can't imagine how big her belly was. I do now how big mine was and I had just 1 really big baby. Everyone was making bets on how many I had but there was only 1 heart beat so I knew it was just one. I figure that she was on bed rest for the last 2 months at least. Anyway you look at it there is something wrong that a mother with 6 children could somehow afford this procedure. Medical will not pay for these kind of procedures.

I think this is the first that I heard of the other children having disabilities, too, and it just makes that doctor all the worse, in my opinion. There was no one around who could let this doctor know of this crazy woman's situation? This doctor just went and preformed this procedure with such recless abandon, that he should be responsible for the financing of this new herd of children. I have not heard... Are any of the new 8 (!) children handicapped? What are their special needs?

That woman is a pig and makes me sick! She has to be mentally ill and one would think the stupid doctor would have known that! What were these two trying to prove anyway? Are they trying to be gods? One popping out as many babies as she could, not caring if they will be healthy or not and the other one making it all happen! As far as I am concerned, they both committed a crime and should be held liable! Were will it end? 20 babies? 36 babies? 200 babies???

maybe..just maybe the mother makes money out of agreeing on doing this and thought of also making money out of welfare. she is one selfish person..for me that is.

You can keep updated here www.dateline.msnbc.com This whole situation of a woman who chooses to be a single mother to an infinite number of children. Being an only child does not seem to be reason enough to try to populate the planet. Some of the octuplets have chances of getting cerebral palsy because of their low birth rate. Someone should investigate that fertility doctor. She is crafty though, she seems to have answers for everything, but I still get a gut feeling this woman is somewhat delusional. I only heard one of the existing six is special needs, however there might be more as I follow this story but not avidly enough to know all the details.

Hi! I have not heard of this news and not even aware of the full story. But based on what you said, and the others too, indeed the mother has some mental issues that should have been reconsidered by the fertility doctor first before anything else.. I just pity those babies! Just because of the selfish actions and irresponsibilities of mother and doctor, they have to suffer!

what i didnt know they were handicapped, well when i first heard that shes having 8 more babies it made me furious she doesnt need to be having that many kids i know its her life but come on now she doesnt have a job and shes living on welfare like come on now cant she stop thinking about herself and stop having so many kids because the kids are the ones that are gonna have to struggle growing up. and i dont really think its the doctors fault because she already had six kids the first time she knew what she was getting herself into. and she should have been happy with the first 6
