I'm not afraid of the dark and, yes, I can navigate my house just fine with the lights out. My husband gets on me all the time for going outside at night without a flashlight because we live in Florida, have a canal in our back yard and we are visited by gators and snakes from time to time. But, if I'm trying to locate one of my cats or dogs I've found that it's easier if I can see more than just the area illuminated by a light.

I'm ok with the dark if I'm in a familiar place like home but somewhere else I be uncomfortable. I think we are afraid of what we can't see. With good reason to be sometimes. I can walk around the house with my lights out but through the woods or a strange place..I'm thinking no.

Hi annjilena! I am not afraid of the dark. I can pretty much walk through my apartment in the dark, but I am sort of afraid that there might be something out of place that I might trip over. I have definitely tripped over my cats who are just there and don't think to move out of my way! Otherwise I do know my way around well enough to not be afraid.

Walking in my own house, or my boyfriend's house does not bother me, because I am most comfortable in these places. I would not want to go wondering outside in the streets while it is dark, where I would not feel so comfortable. Basically anywhere unfamiliar I do not feel comfortable, so I doubt the dark would make me feel more comfortable haha. In my own house I can walk around all the obstacles in the dark with no problem whatsoever. I have even walked in the woods while it is night behind my house, I can navigate that in the dark even, you would think that I would be scared of it! I can't believe it myself haha. Scientists say that we do not fear the dark because of regular animals, but we got this fear from living in caves long ago, where rival cavemen groups would murder each other, so we fear murder, or humans in the dark rather than regular night lurking creatures!

hello annjilena i guess that i am really not afraid of the dark but i do like to have some kind of lighting on at all times after dark inside of my house. i do not want to fall over anything and hurt myself, nor would i want anybody else that lives here to fall over something and hurt themselves either. but at the same time, i do not want to walk anywhere after dark by myself. i would totally flip out if i had to walk alone at night time like that. so i guess that in one way, i am afraid of the dark and in another way, i am not afraid of the dark, if that makes any sense. lol and to answer your question, no i wouldn't want to walk around my house with my eyes shut and all of the lights out. take care and have a beautiful evening.

I used to be afraid of the dark, but am not any more. I am actually kind of comforted by the dark when sleeping. I actually think that dim lights with weird noises around the house is the scariest because IF there would be something there you'd be able to see it and that would be so freaky. At least if it's dark and you are hearing weird things you do not have to confront it, maybe this is really stupid to think. But it's very calming at night :P

No I am not afraid of the dark now. I say now because when I was a kid I was terrified of the dark and had constant problems falling asleep. I think I saw one to many scary movies or something! Now I can get up, go to the bathromm, go downstairs and make an omlette or whatever in the dark and I am not afraid! I do usually turn on the lights, though...

I wouldn't say "afraid" as much as I'd say leary depending upon where I am at. At home I don't care if the lights are out, but I don't like walking in the dark alone like to empty trash, or walk to my car. It's more a safety issue then anything.

this is a good observation of looking at why you don,t like walking in the dark.some i try to feel my way around when i come home late but i don,t like it at all.

oh yes i am. i am a big guy but i am afraid of the dark. everywhere i go i always bring my flashlight. so i have one in my bag. as a keychain i also have a small flash light. i am so shy to admit but yes i am afraid. my wife can sleep with the lights turn off. from the time we lived together she complains she cant sleep for i sleep with the lights open. we sleep with a small lamp on. i think she got used to it already.... specially starting the day that our child was born for she makes sure she can see what is happeneing to him. so now we are all slleping with a little light coming from the lampshade.

usually i am not afraid of the dark if i am in a familiar territory.. like my house or office.. but if i was in an unfamiliar place like someone else's house or i am lost somewhere dark, then i would definitely be terrified.. more than the fear of the unknown, it is the fear of bugs, spiders, snakes or anything dangerous that creeps me out... if i were to meet a ghost or something. i would actuallly be very interested... lol
