I suffer problems with anxiety ever so often. Like today for an instance, I got scared and panicky in the morning because I felt a little short of breath. The allergies are really getting to me so I was coughing alot. So when ever I feel a little short of breath I panic! Then I start to hyperventilate and I get so scared that I'm not going to be able to breath. I know this is because of my anxiety problems but I still get these panic attacks and fear.

I've learned a lot about anxiety over the past several months. My son began experience anxiety earlier this year and we are still working on it. Do you have certain things that you do, or certain things that you say to yourself to try to get through your anxiety?

I am terrified of bee's. I have panic attacks if they come anywhere near me. Because of how scared I am of them, I freak over any insect that makes a buzzing sound.

no, things like drainage grids or heater grill, anything you step on with those open slots I had to once walk onto a ferry across that stuff and I was in SHOCK by the time I got over it - full scale phobia - cold, shakes, sick to the stomach, I was bad before, I'm worse now At least I have an idea of WHY I'm afraid - when I was a small child - probably the winter after I was 2, I fell on a heating grate an "waffled" my hand.

Hi Riya, I also scared of some creatures but fortunately in Delhi there is not much. Cockroaches are there but small in size. In our native there are number of creatures especially in the rainy season. I scared to see those small worms normally seen in plants. Some are yellow in colours and if it touches anywhere in our body an itching will start in the particular place of our body. I really scared those.

I also have problems with my balance and have the fear of falling. I have fallen in my pool and in my home. The worst fall I have had has hurt my back muscles. My biggest fear is snakes and now my husband losing his job with the economy and us losing our home.

I have so many fears, way too many and some hold me back which is sad. But my biggest fear is of lizards. I can not stand to even look at one on TV or in a book. That lizard in the insurance commercial is not as bad since it is not a real live one.

Oh yes, we have flying cockroaches down here also. There are a lot of palm trees here in south Texas and roaches love those trees. It seems like when the weather is really dry here those big flying roaches come out and try to find water. I don't like them either.

Hi riyasam, I agree with you that everyone has one or the other fear which one has to encounter in day to day life.I also have quite a few fears and one of them is from rats..these days(thankfully) there is none in our house, but if ever there is one, I am scared to go to the kitchen at night fearing I might stumble on the rat by mistake. Till one occurs in future, I'm free to walk in the kitchen any time!!!!

I hate cockroaches but I am not afraid of them. They should rather be the one to be afraid of me because I'd kill them as I see them. It is on the snakes that I really am afraid. I don't even want to see them in photos how much more seeing them live before my eyes.

Yes, I have a phobia for spiders. I find spiders disgusting. Maybe things are much deeper. I hate the way they hunt, the way they kill, the way they hide, dark and humid places, dirt, old and abandoned places ... I hate their waiting for a victim and the sticky way they build up a trap. I think the spider is more like a symbol of what's disgusting for me.

It is funny how sometimes people get worked up about things that really aren't that scary. I have a fear of spiders. I do not even touch pictures of spiders and even spider stuffed toys. I used to hate hearing the sound of the beel in church. Growing up with these phobias is really a drag. I cannot tell you how many times I got teased with spiders by my friends. LOL

My irrational fear is of being buried alive, what I mean is that I don't fancy being awake whilst the worms and insects use me to dine off! It's stupid really, that's why I decided that I want to be cremated and not buried, mind you I have no dependents so when I do die, who is going to be by my graveside? I hate bugs and I can't even bear to watch a film or program about them. I can watch the worlds most scariest horror film and not bat an eyelid, yet when it comes to bugs I can't even bear to be in the same room if it's on, yuk!

I would say my biggest fears aren't as superficial as bugs or heights (although my anxiety issues have cursed me with plenty of those types of fears as well). My biggest fear is the loss of purpose in life, loss of my dreams, and basically loss of anything that makes me who I am or identifies me in some way (and I don't mean just material things). As far as the more irrational, superficial fears go, like most people, I cannot stand the sight of a cockroach. I have a MASSIVE fear of severe weather (I can only reside in certain locations because of it), fire, and going past the 4th floor of tall buildings. If I am in a hotel that is a high rise building, for example, I cannot stay in a room past the 4th floor. (This is odd because adapted to heights fairly easily when I was a diver, and will go on certain amusement park rides that are high, but that is a different feeling for me than dealing with the height of a tall building). It has to do with falling and with security... being able to escape easily without injuring myself for life if I find myself in any danger... I am also afraid of certain politicians but I won't go there(!). I have OCD, which is an imbalance of the neurotransmitter seretonin - a chemical in the brain signaling risks and dangers. Basically people with OCD are on constant alert and even though each individual deals with different anxieties and different symptoms, it doesn't take much to make them afraid or insecure... so that plays a large role in my fears.

I am not quite sure why but some numbers frighten me. I guess it's more of a habit that I must do then a fear, but even so I do think I've made it into a fear.

I am afraid of heights. I can't climb ladders or go up fire escapes without my heart going a mile a minute. I don't know what it is, I've never fallen or anything like that, but like you said it's irrational. I realized my fear when I was 13 years old. I was going to a basketball game with my friend and her father at a high school, and the only way to get into the gym for non-students was to go up 4 flights of fire escape stairs. I started out ok, no problem. Then i glanced down and saw striaght thru to the ground. My heart started to race, my grip on the rail tightened, I even felt a little dizzy. My friend was up at the top of the stairs and I was just passing the second floor. In my head, I was thinking "come on, they're just stairs..." but that didn't get my legs moving any faster. What I think is most interesting is that it doesn't bother me to fly, or even go on a rollarcoaster 300 feet in the air. But take me to the third step on a ladder and I start turning into jelly. Yep, irrational.

I actually fear that my teeth will one day be replaced by dentures. This is kinda weird and most people find this answer unusual. Anyways, I already have my teeth all covered with jacket. It was kinda expensive but at least I am sure my teeth will be protected from cavities.
