Are you a railfan? What is your favorite type of Unit (Locomotive)?

What is your favorite kind of locomotive? Mine is the American type class 4-4-0 .. And I like most types of trains... that run on a steel rail. I am okay with cable cars, monorails, and maglev but to me are not as fascinating... :) .

Southern Pacific Daylight - The Daylight was run through several California routes. This was taken at Railfair in Sacramento, Cali.
Here's a pic I took of SP's Daylight at Railfair in Sacramento, Cali. Isn't she just a sight for sore eyes? Aloha!

I love trains, but my knowlege on them is zero. It is like enjoying flowers without knowing their names or botanical names. We we were going to school in the 1960s steam engines were common. But later diesel enjines came and they gradually vanished. I used to play with model trains when I was small, and I still have the set I used to play with 40 years ago.

hmm... lets see.. One you know that a train is, Two you know there are many names, as like many flowers... Three you know of the Steam Engines of the 1960's, and four you know the word diesel engines, and 5 you know the steams gradually vanished, and 6 you used to play with models meaning you know 7 what a train looks like, 8 they go on tracks.. So You don't know Zero about Trains you are least know 8! lol. I do not know anyone who knows everything about trains that is impossible.. I love them, but I struggle with the types the classes the makes, the railroad names and technical aspect of hard core obsessive railfanning.... But, I just plan love trains I do not need to know which headlight is on one what company manufactored them, or what style headlight one engine has. One night in a train chat I used to go to they debated on a headlight to one engine for 4 hrs before, I finally got irritated found the answer in the surf engine to shut em up lol.... Its like Gee i love trains people but come on its a headlight! lol... I love trains now, and always will. I am fascinated from the Steam, To diesel, to electric to the cable cars. Anything that runs on a Steel Iron rails mainly, althought monorails and MagLeve catch my fascination too. :) - DNatureofDTrain

Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4, and "Challenger" 4-6-6-4 still hold me in absolute awe! I do like all kinds of trains, too. And although the maglev is not as fascinating as a locomotive, the theory behind the propulsion I do find fascinating. Aloha!

The Pennsylvania GG-1. A one of a kind locomotive that stood out from all the rest! I espicially like how both ends are identical.

That is a nice one! Neat. :) .. Pictures of it used to always baffle me as a child in the Book of Great locomotives of whatever that was called book I used to drool at all the time. :) .

NS, does have nice looking engines, and they do look sleak and strong. I like the way their service looks as an outsider, and I think they are one of the best roads, as well. - DNatureofDTrain
