I seem to get this question often not only in my e-mails but in some forums. "How do I get my kids to eat more vegetables and fruit?" It seems mothers are having a hard time getting their kids to eat right. I know most mothers work and the kids have gotten used to eating fast foods and some don't even know what a fresh vegetable taste like or even looks like. It seems as if McDonalds was trying when they came out with Apple Dippers but when they put that caramel dip with their apple dippers that was when they messed up. Who wants their child to eat that much sugar and especially at night? I know I wouldn't. So today when I got that question again in my e-mail I decided to make a blog just for mothers who want their kids to eat better. It doesn't have a lot on it yet but I plan to add more every day if possible. So I am asking for a little help from all you mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers even aunts and uncles....well everyone who reads this.... If you have a little trick in getting kids to eat more vegetables and fruit please share with me and I will put it on my blog. It is at Squidoo http://www.squidoo.com/recipes4kids Would really like some feedback on this one. Thanks, Kowgirl

My nephew very worst, she doesn't like eat vegetables and fruit even it make with all kinds of food. When she look or taste a food, she don't want to eat that food anymore when this food have vegetables and fruit. This kid very hard to give her a food, what she want to eat and what she don't want to eat. I don't want to be a bad uncle, so if she want to eat i would serve her a food. I have read your Squidoo site, and that not same with i got with my nephew. I am confuse by my self, how do i get my nephew to eat more vegetables and fruit if she always cried when i force her to eat a food with vegetables or fruit.

This is the purpose of the blog ....to help people learn how to get kids to eat more fruits and vegetables. Never force a child to eat.... that will make them hate it even more. Start small when trying to get kids to eat vegetables. 1 whole green bean today and add more each time. Make it a game...Can you eat 3 green beans before she eats one? Try hiding them in other foods of the same color. Mash carrots up in sweet potatoes that have been sweetened with cinnamon and honey. All kids like sweet foods. If they don't see them they never know they are there. Mix cauliflower in with mashed potatoes. It still taste like mashed potatoes. Chop broccoli florets into tinny, tiny pieces and put them in melted cheese you use for a topping on other foods or mix them in a cheese dip. Kids love the dips because it makes them feel more grown up. Since most kids like cheese try putting melted cheese on the broccoli florets. Sometimes just changing the shape works on some kids. Like cutting them into different shapes with small cookie cutters. Or calling them by another name. My grandson said he didn't like cantaloupe until his mother gave him some mixed in with some other melons that were done with a small melon baller and she called them "fruit marbles". He still like to eat "fruit marbles" and it doesn't matter what fruit it is now as long as they are small and round. Kids like to mimic grown ups or older kids so try giving them the same fruit and /or vegetable you or an older child are eating. Treating them like an older person works wonders. Make vegetable lasagna covered with a meat sauce. Try the meatloaf on my blog. That works with most kids.

I guess you're right, i can eat the whole of green beans before she eat one. I think she doesn't like green color and she like red color. But, she like potatoes for her food. And, she like cheese so i would give her this food without force her. Good suggestion, and it's work. Thanks for sharing that idea.

Hi Friend I never had a problem with my kids eating veggies and fruits But they ate them from an early age. The evening snack was an apple or yogurt or popcorn We seldom had junk foods except with a picnic even holiday meals we had veggie and fruit trays instead of the chips and dips like our neighbors. Kids learn what they live. Nice blog..I enjoyed it xoxoxoxoxo

They seem to drift away from the foods we fed them when they were babies (12-18 mo.) It's when they get big enough to feed themselves they decide they don't like the foods they ate back then. It's great to hear you didn't let your children eat a lot of junk food. Too many kids today eat more junk food than they do healthy foods. And way too many are getting fat and showing signs of becoming a diabetic. With the economy the way it is today most moms are working and aren't there to look after their kids the way they would like. Thanks for the visit and the comment Kowgirl

As I remember we always gave the kids vegetables first because they were bound to like the sweetness of the fruit more. We never had a probablem getting them to eat fruits. Especially berries, they could never get enough of those. I think they did pretty good on the vegetables as well, they weren't really picky eaters at all.
