Dog or Cat?

They say that dogs are man's bestfriend. They can bark at a time when things go wrong. They can call your attention if someone is trying to steal your stuff. However, cats are different because they would just glance at you and roam around near the sofa trying to minimize your stress level. Do you think that cats are also messy than dogs.
If you are going to choose a pet, what would it be? and Why?
