I belong to a community blog on livejournal. It's all crafters - many who knit. They can help you out with tips and tricks: http://community.livejournal.com/thecraftyblog/ If you look under "Links" on the blog page, you can find pages of bookmarked sites. i have never knitted a shawl either but it is something that i would like to try to knit when i first learned to knit three years ago as a senior in high school i was never taught to read a knitting pattern so i have always just had to wing it and make up the stitches from off the top of my head as i go along i just picture the final product in my head and go for it so maybe you could try winging it like i do or else look up online for knitting patterns that you like

Did you find a pattern yet? Knitting Pattern Central has several links to free shawl patterns: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/shawls_stoles.php

What is the kit called? What type and make of yarn is in it? That might help narrow down the search a bit.

Have you looked for a book of patterns? I saw one recently for Prayer Shawls. I think I am going to go back and get it. I want to start working on those this fall. You might try searching on eBay for books/patterns.

Hi, I have fibro and am always cold. I knit a shawl from a dishcloth pattern. You increase a stitch each row until it is the size you want. Very simple. You need a circular needle to hold all of the stitches as you build up. Are you and experienced knitter?
